Anti-Aging With Neostrata Exuviance

OK, I can’t stop raving about these two items. I was sent them to try a few weeks ago and I am hooked on both!

Exuviance Evening Restorative Complex is a great evening moisturizer. This night cream is fairly thick, yet it does not feel particularly heavy. It absorbs well, and leaves no oily feeling. So I was comfortable using it, even with fairly oily skin right now. At the same time, I think people with up to fairly dry skin could also happily use this.

Exuviance Restorative Complex Night Cream
The Restorative Complex simply feel terrific. It has a light, but unobtrusive scent that reminds me a bit of Estee Lauder Day wear. I have also woken up each morning after using it thinking that my skin looked pretty darn good. Here is what the company says about it:

Rejuvenate while you rest. This intensive high-performance cream is designed to help repair dry, photo-damaged skin and fight the visible signs of aging while you sleep. Contains a bionic blend of gluconolactone and lactobionic acid (PHAs) to provide intense hydration, enhance skin texture and fight oxidative damage, while botanicals and lipids help soothe stressed skin.

Now here is the kicker: I thought this would likely be a pretty expensive product. It feels luxurious, and I rank it among some of the top night creams I have tried. Those almost always turn out to be over $60, and often in the over $90 range. So imagine my surprise when I learned that it sells for around $30! I think it is safe to say that I will be repurchasing this one when it is gone!

Exuviance Vespera Bionic Serum Mandelic Acid
Exuviance Vespera Bionic Serum is another item that I liked quite a bit. This serum has antioxidants, marine botanicals, and mandelic acid to brighten skin and improve texture. Madelic acid is sometimes recommended for melasma treatment, although I have to admit that I have never seen any real lightening from it. I like it quite a bit, however, as a general exfoliator and anti-wrinkle agent. The serum feels a bit oily. I have had no issues with breakouts from it, but also have been using it only on non-acne prone areas (mainly my forehead wrinkles). If you have dry skin, you will fine that it adds a nice bit of extra moisture and I like the general effect of it when used in combination with the Exuviance Restorative Complex.

At $55 it is a bit more expensive, but this is still a good price for a treatment serum. Many are running in the over $75 range these days.

Overall, my experience with Exuviance has been good. I am finding the products to be good value choices, because they provide high quality at a more medium price range.

Look for Neostrata Exuviance products at your local Ulta store.

Essence of Beauty Brush Kit with Press Liner

82857 Essence of Beauty makeup brushes come from a quality drugstore line that can be found at CVS stores. For more on them in general, see my previous review.

When I was in CVS the other day, I noticed that the line had a travel kit on sale that included a press liner (also known as a push liner). If you are unfamiliar with what a press liner is, it is a stiff, flat brush, that allows the user to push eyeshadow or liner up under the lashes. Having one is a great way to use dark shadow easily as a eyeliner. Pictured is one from NARS that is a bit expensive, but that I also rather like.

It looks like the only way to get the more affordable Essence of Beauty liner is to buy the travel kit set.  If the brush is sold separately, my local CVS did not have it.  But the kit was only $9.99.  So, anyone wanting an affordable press liner brush might want to take a look at the specials isle at their local CVS (the kit not in the brush section at my local CVS–it was only in the specials area)

Review: Nars the Multiple Multi-Purpose Stick

Nars the Multiple Orgasm I don’t know why it took me so long to get around to picking up a NARS The Multiple Multi-Purpose Stick in the shade Orgasm. I love stick blushes and I love Nars blushes, so I should have been all over this earlier!

Well, I finally did get one in Orgasm and I do indeed love it. Nars Orgasm blush has always been a great shade for me, but a bit too shimmery for my over 40 tastes.  However, the multiple version of it seems less shimmery to me. The general shimmer is still there, but it seems toned down a bit.

As a cream blush, Nars The Multiple blends well and had a good amount of pigment. On the lips, it provides a nice sheer color. Pair it up with Nars Orgasm Lip Gloss (read review) for a double punch of that shade.

People Style Watch Special Beauty Secrets Issue

I love magazines. Yeah, I am an online media person, but something about holding a magazine and looking at the glossy pictures provides that extra something that just can’t compare to the Internet. For makeup and beauty addicts, People Magazine’s People Style Watch has a great special issue out for May.

People Style Watch May 08 Cover Katherine Heigl Carmen Electra
If you are not familiar with the magazine, People Style Watch normally provides celebrity style observations and tips. For example, check out page 20 for a great bag inspired by Vanessa Hudgens’ Louis Vuitton bag, or page 38 for fashion commentary from Brody Jenner of The Hills. A good amount of makeup, hair and beauty material is also always included.

The May issue of People Style Watch, featuring the beautiful Katherine Heigl on the cover, goes beyond its normal beauty coverage and provides a section of 100 beauty secrets. From top celebrity hair styles, to the best tools and tricks for makeup and hair–it is all in there. A few favorites of mine are the best mascara list, makeup artist must haves, and the interesting page featuring Beyonce on what it costs to look like a star (hint, it is a lot). There are also some great general tips in the section, some that were new to me, such as a way to use ivory soap as a hair stying item!

People Style Watch will be on the stands April 25 through May 26, 2008. At $3.99 US, it is one of the very reasonably priced magazines and is definitely a fun read.
