Makari Skin Lightening Cream

Makari Caviar Melasma and Hyperpigmentation TreatmentAwhile back, I was sent samples of a Makari Skin Whitening & Lightening Cream to try. The cream is hydroquinone free and instead contains arbutin, mulberry extract and licorice extract as recognizable melasma treatment ingredients. A more recent version also contains caviar extract, which it claims is effective.

I am skeptical of the caviar extract claim, but arbutin and licorice are couple favorite ingredients of mine. The cream is lightly moisturizing, but not oily, and it did not seem to clog my pores. Whether it was effective or not was hard to say. I was using the cream in conjunction with a PCA Skin Care gel that I have found to be very effective, so the best I can say is that when I alternated between the two, my melasma continued to improve.

Makari makes a number of products, all with quite attractive packaging. They also have samples available for a low cost.

  1. Hi,
I need help my sister and I use some cream that had hydroquinine in it and it has put black blotches on our skin what can we do to get the original color back

  2. Lynette: You should see a professional for that issue and do not use any more hydroquinone under any circumstances. Unfortunately, some people are sensitive to hydroquinone, and for them, it causes a form of melasma that is grayish in color and often irreversible. That is one of several reasons why it is banned in a number of countries. However, a dermatologist may be able to provide some treatment for it. What is available for melasma caused by hydroquinone is beyond my level of expertise.

  3. i use makari body but couldn’t get some anymore so i bought victoria albi and mixed it with makari serum but i hacve reliazed am becoming darker. can you tell me why

  4. Ephe: I don’t have a clear answer for you. I suggest making sure that you constantly wear a good sunscreeen, preferably one with a physical blocker (titanium dioxide or zinc oxide), because sun exposure is usually the main cause of darkening. Treatment products alone won’t help if you keep getting sun exposure and just a few minutes each day can cause darkening of melasma. Also check to see if your products contian hydroquinone (I don’t think either Makari or Albi do though). Some people are sensitive to hydroquinone and darken from it.

  5. hi,
am using cocoa butter cream and i want to also mix it makari serum to lighten my colour pls i need to know if its a good idea.tanx

  6. I came across the makari products form a skin lightening board. So I started using the day cream and beautifying milk and it’s lightened my skin 2-3 shades. Others on the board have also had significant results from the day cream, night cream and milk.

There’s a discount code on the board called (amber411). I use it every time I place an order on the makari website to safe money. You can use the amber411 discount code as many times as you want. Good luck ladies.

  7. Patricia: You can use pretty much anything else with it. I tend to combine a skin lightener with an exfoliator such as retinol or glycolic acid.

  8. pls, I just started using makari lightening cream and I just bought the makari serum.pls can someone tell me how to combine both?

  9. Ollie, usually a serum is applied before a cream. Try using the serum, waiting a minute or two, and then applying the cream. Or, you might find that you prefer to use the serum during the day since it will be lighter and the cream at night.

  10. @Carleen–thanx a mill that was helpful, I now use the serum first and the cream later like you said. however, I would also like to know how to apply the makari antiseptic soap for the most effect, do I leave it on my face/body for some minutes before scrubbing it off or its just fine to bath with it as usual.

  11. Hi Abigail! You can combine products. If you look on the Makari site, they have a serum formulated for body use that would pair well with the body milk.

  12. Serums usually lighten faster than other products. So focus on that first and foremost. Adding the body milk can help, but often using one item along with very regular sunscreen use will get similar results. Keep in mind that all products take awhile and require regular use.

  13. Unfortunately, there really isn’t anything that can lighten skin in one week. In fact, even the best of products tend to take months to work and many don’t ever completely do the job. Once pigmentation has set in, it is difficult to remove and takes a lot of time. There are some decent makeup items that can be used to cover hypergimented areas though. Take a look at Dermablend corrective makeup here: http://www.dermstore.com/profile_Dermablend_100175.htm It covers quite well.
