Lisa, please read my previous comment. As a side note, I don’t think I would go to MAC pro for polish lessons (as much as I love their stores). I would hit my local nail salon where I get very lovely manicures from time to time. So lovely that I when I want a good one I go there, since, as I mentioned previously, I suck at doing them myself. And yes, I know full well how to do it.

If my nails looked that bad when I applied polish, Id never ever wear it. No excuses, you need to go to a MAC pro store and get them to show you how. It looks unprofessional in any occupation, lazy and cheap. All you have to do is use a little remover or soak in hot water to remove it. Do it while you have a shower. Trendy it is not.

Yeah, I know, my nails generally are on the sloppy side. But the fact of the matter is that (1) Even when extremely careful and doing all the nice things to remove polish around the edges (and yes, I know what those are), I suck at manicures. When I want a good one I pay someone; (2) I am not particularly an everyday polish wearer. I put it on for general review and then remove it a day later when it chips from my job. If it lasts a few days I am impressed. So I don’t get overly concerned about the edges; (3) I can tell if a polish applies well even though I happen to not have a steady hand; and (4) polish doesn’t stick to skin well. So a day later if I haven’t killed the manicure, the edges are clean and it looks rather good. If I trusted myself not to chip it, I would wait a day to take the pictures.

Anyway, based on all of the above, I honestly don’t worry about it much. But obviously readers are welcome and able to discount my reviews as they feel fit based on my less than perfect application. Perhaps I will switch to doing single finger swatches instead in order to aim for a better look, albeit on only one nail.

You really need to clean the excess nail polish around your nails. You never seem to do it and it just looks awfully messy and unprofessional. I’m sorry to sound harsh, but how can we trust your review on how a polish applies, when you can’t seem to do it very well?
I know I sound like a hater, but please take this as constructive criticism.
1. don’t start applying nail polish right on the cuticle. Leave a millimeter of empty space between the cuticle and where the polish starts
2. after the polish is dry use a toothpick(or whatever) which you wrap in some cotton wool and soak in nail remover. Now remove the polish from your SKIN
