Nars Cosmetics and Phillip Lim

Friday, February 19th, 2010

NARS Cosmetics created the makeup look at the Phillip Lim NEW York Fashion Week, Fall 2010 show .  The inspiration was disco-punk. “This is a youthful, rebellious look that exudes a strong sense of confidence. Energy radiates within the girls through their makeup with eyes that have a bit of a rock and roll feel,” said designer Phillip Lim whose inspiration stemmed from an image of Blondie’s Debbie Harry.

“This look has many layers,” said NARS lead artist Lisa Butler. “The eyes are punchy and edgy while the skin was kept healthy and glowing. The lips are a soft, sheer pink for the elegant punk-rock princess style that Phillip was looking for.”

The Best Makeup Brushes and Tools

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

I particularly like this article, syndicated from Total Beauty, on the best makeup brushes and beauty tools. It has a good selection of good makeup brushes and other makeup tools and includes the smashbox eyeliner brush, which is hands down my favorite. I love the angle on it.  It also includes the Shu Uemura Eyelash curler, which is another favorite of mine and is a cult classic. A few MAC makeup brushes, which are also always good, are included as well.

Do you have a favorite makeup brush beauty tool included in the list?

Bioelements Gentle Creme Eye Makeup Remover

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

When it comes to skin care, I often recommend Bioelements.  They consistently put out good products at a fairly decent price point for the high level of quality. They are not cheap items, but they aren’t luxury priced either.  Bioelements Gentle Creme Eye Makeup Remover is no different. This gentle (surprise, just as the name says!) eye makeup remover cuts through waterproof makeup without being drying or irritating. Mostly though, it works really well!

Bioelements eye makeup remover is like a thin lotion in consistency and includes extracts to sooth the skin.  I sometimes get irritation from eye makeup removers and did not from this one. I also had good luck with it removing some very stubborn waterproof makeup after I swatched a bunch of Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes on my arm and learned first hand just how waterproof those are. Watch for a review of Aqua Eyes and more on that topic next week. For now, all you need to know is that Bioelements did indeed remove waterproof eye makeup easily without any scrubbing, while regular soap and water failed miserably.

Note: This review is based on a product given to me by a representative of the company (via Beauty Fix). For more, please see my disclosure page.
