Last week I started the Dannon Activia Fourteen Day Challenge. I am eating Activia everyday for two weeks to see how I like it. So far, so good! I found that I love, love, love the raspberry flavor and the strawberry is pretty tasty too. I also found that Activia is a nice snack at anytime. For example, I have been taking it to work with me for a mid-morning snack, and I have eaten a cup in the evening when I found myself suddenly hungry. I figure it is a better choice than my previous choice of ice cream. Mostly though, I like it as a post exercise snack.
I am a runner and for optimal recovery, it is recommended that runners eat a light snack within 15 minutes after running that is around a 3/1 or 4/1 carbohydrate to protein ratio. A cup of Dannon Activia averages around 13 grams of carbohydrates and 4 grams of protein, so it fits quite well into my running routine. But that trick isn’t just for runners. Eating a snack with that ration of carbs to protein is recommended after any type of exercise to help the muscles refuel, rebuild, and recover.
