Dannon Activia As a Great Post Exercise Snack

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

TakeActiviaTasteTest1 Last week I started the Dannon Activia Fourteen Day Challenge. I am eating Activia everyday for two weeks to see how I like it. So far, so good! I found that I love, love, love the raspberry flavor and the strawberry is pretty tasty too.  I also found that Activia is a nice snack at anytime. For example, I have been taking it to work with me for a mid-morning snack, and I have eaten a cup in the evening when I found myself suddenly hungry. I figure it is a better choice than my previous choice of ice cream. Mostly though, I like it as a post exercise snack.

I am a runner and for optimal recovery, it is recommended that runners eat a light snack within 15 minutes after running that is around a 3/1 or 4/1 carbohydrate to protein ratio. A cup of Dannon Activia averages around 13 grams of carbohydrates and 4 grams of protein, so it fits quite well into my running routine. But that trick isn’t just for runners. Eating a snack with that ration of carbs to protein is recommended after any type of exercise to help the muscles refuel, rebuild, and recover. It is low in calories too, so if you are watching your weight it is a good choice.  Finally, Activia has active probiotic cultures that help maintain digestive health.

Dannon Activia is currently running their fourteen day challenge where you can try Activia for two weeks and, if your don’t love it, you can be reimbursed for the cost of the yogurt. For more info on that or on Activia in general click the logo above.

The Best Leave In Hair Conditioners

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

I am quite a fan of leave in conditioners. The best conditioners tend to detangle well,  protect the hair from heat styling, and leave your hair feeling soft and looking smooth and silky. My personal favorite is Schwarzkoph Bonacure Moisture Kick Spray Conditioner (link is to previous review). I use that one regularly and have repurchased it on multiple occasions.

The article below is  syndicated from Total Beauty and lists a number of he top leave in conditioners. Included are a couple of other favorites of mine from the Redken Smooth Down line (link is to previous review) and the always wonderfully affordable Aussie line of products.

Below is Total Beauty’s list. Click through the links to see the entire article.
