Women: Why We Love Cashmere

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

Ah, cashmere. Women love it, and I am no exception to that rule. Wearing cashmere is like putting on a soft, rich fabric that caresses the skin. It makes me feel wealthy even when I’m not. I even know that it makes me look rich even when I’m not. Women can fool a lot of people this way.

Cashmere is rarely inexpensive, unless you can find it on sale at a great price. However, every woman wants to own at least one good cashmere sweater for those occasions when she needs to feel special. I know that it helps me on days that I am feeling down. I am even thinking about buying another cashmere sweater just to have a choice when I reach into my drawer.

My sweater in lovely cashmere is a beautiful soft shade of coffee. You know the color. It’s the way coffee looks once you pour in the cream and start to stir. It has tiny swirls of white throughout the tan colors of the coffee. I call my cashmere sweater the color of hazelnut. My next sweater will be a blue and gray combination. I’ve already seen it at the store and I’m hoping that the price will come down. However, even if it doesn’t, I know I’m going to buy it anyway. I’ve already fallen in love with it. This sweater will look great with stylish jeans and I’ll even feel more dressed up by wearing it with jeans. I can picture it now.

There are so many benefits to wearing cashmere besides just the fabulous look and feel of the fabric. Cashmere keeps you warm on the coldest of days while still being a lightweight sweater. Heavy wool sweaters are warm, but they are also bulky. They take up a lot of room in your drawer. Cashmere folds nicely, and can also be stored in the closet with very little space needed.

Now that you know how much I love cashmere, you also know that it’s important to take proper care of it so it will last for many years to come. Since cashmere is made of delicate fibers of goat hair, there are special rules to follow in its’ care. All cashmere sweaters come with a “dry clean only” tag. This is one safe way to clean your sweater and make it last. However, it is also possible to hand wash the garment. Believe it or not, this can even make the cashmere feel softer.

To hand wash cashmere safely, you need to use a very mild detergent or baby shampoo. When finished, do not wring it out but lay it flat down on a towel. Then you can reshape it as it is drying. You will notice that cashmere does take a very long time to dry, but be patient. You’ll be happy in the long run. But, there is another option. You can use a large salad spinner to dry it faster. The water will be spun off. This will cut the drying time in half.

One more tip for you…never hang your fantastic cashmere sweater on a hanger. You will get ugly bumps and strange shapes. Be delicate with your cashmere and it will be delicate for you. I intend to wear mine for many more decades!

Lancôme Hypnose Doll Lashes

Monday, September 26th, 2011

You know how dolls always have super long, curled, and ultra defined lashes? It isn’t hard to look at a porcelain doll and suffer some serious lash envy!  So, what did Lancôme do about it? They went and formulated a mascara inspired by dolls in order to recreate that big lash, wide-eyed look. They also are running a fun Facebook application where you can upload a photo and create and makeup your own doll.

Pocelain Doll Lashes

Lancôme has long been one of my favorite brands for mascara. Their various offerings in the Hypnose line have always been quality items that provided good volume, length, and/or definition depending on the formulation.

I was provided with a sample of the new Lancôme Hypnose Doll Lashes to try.  The brush with this one is a bit unique. It starts out thick at the base and tapers to a point at the top. This makes it quite easy to get into the corners of your eyes with the mascara and to get nice definition on the lower lashes as well. It also does a nice job of creating volume at the base of the lashes. However, what I noticed most when using Lancôme Hypnose Doll Lashes was the length and definition. This mascara  creates long lashes with a high amount of definition. I also noted some decent curl, which is a bonus, even though I always recommend curling your lashes before applying mascara for the best effect. Do be sure to wipe the brush with a bit of tissue before using this one, as the corner of the brush can pick up extra product when it is removed from the tube. Overall, I think Lancôme did a nice job with this new mascara, especially in regard to formulating a product that can recreate that doll type of look.

In connection with the new mascara,  Lancôme has also released a fun Facebook app where you can create your own doll using a personal photo and then can apply lashes and makeup, change her dress, or change her attitude. Here is mine. I don’t know that she looks all that much like me, but she does have my eyes, is rather cute, and I enjoyed making her. I love her attitudes!

The 1st Doll Lash Look by Lancôme: a volumized, full lash fringe for a wide-eye look. Lancôme’s most flirtatious mascara lifts, thickens and precisely defines even hard-to-reach corners and lower lashes beautifully.
