Welcome to the first edition of Makeup Wars, where beauty bloggers get together and battle it out with features of their favorite products! Episode One starts with the Battle of the Taupes. My favorite is MAC Satin Taupe, with NARS Lhasa a close second, so I am providing both for purposes of comparison. To see others in the Battle of the Taupes, click on through the graphic below or use the links at the end of this post.
Like most MAC eye shadows, Satin Taupe is well pigmented and fairly affordable. It costs more than a drugstore brand but not as pricey as many of the cosmetic counter and luxury brands. It is a staple for many, and I think is one of the best all around taupes that you can buy. Meanwhile, NARS Lhasa is another highly pigmented item that runs a bit more on the purple side. In fact, I didn’t think it looked as taupey (is that a word? lol!) when I first saw it in the case, but it is definitely taupe on the skin.
MAC Satin Taupe and NARS Lhasa Swatches
Below are the two items, from right to left: Nars Lhasa and MAC Satin Taupe.
When it comes to wearing the two, MAC Satin Taupe wins out for me, but I still also adore Lhasa. Here are swatches of both in the same order:
I give MAC Satin Taupe my winning vote, because I like the overall brown and gray undertone to it, which is what gives it that truly taupe look.
Here I am wearing Satin Taupe.
Satin Taupe is the only eye shadow shade I am wearing here. I did rub it out quite a bit in the inside corner of the eye and on the brow bone with a touch of MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder in Light Plus to highlight those areas a bit. Unfortunately my lids don’t seem to show all that well in photos, but you can at least get a bit of an idea of the look from the photo.
Other Makeup in the Look
Other key makeup in the photo with links to my previous reviews where applicable:
Makeup Forever Duo Matte Powder Foundation in Ivory. I put on a touch of NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Alaska under this, which I love and still need to write up a review. The combo of this is amazing since I had several blemishes when I took this photo and they barely show up.
NARS The Multiple in Orgasm on the cheeks. Layered under a bit of MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Light Plus simply to set it.
There is a light touch of Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes liner in Bronze on my upper and lower lid with Satin Taupe layered over it.
So, there you have it! My favorite taupe eye shadow! Want to know the favorites of the other beauty bloggers in the Makeup Wars group? Start browsing by clicking through the graphic at the top, or use the links below. There is a neat variety of great taupe shades featured here!
