Today I have a guest post from model and actress Emma J (who you also see in the photos). Emma also provided a great post a few weeks ago on Summer Beauty Essentials. Be sure to follow Emma here: www.twitter.com/@emmajactress and also check out her blog here: http://www.my-style-blog.com/
Hello August! I am a serious lover of summer, however my hair doesn’t feel the same way. We all know how damaging the sun is on our hair. While at the beach, my fedora is as essential as my bikini, yet I have to remind myself to protect my hair while in the city. Following my summer skin essentials last month, here are my summer hair essentials.
Beauty starts from the inside out. I first understood this fully when I became a vegan and witnessed the difference in my skin and hair quality. I highly recommend Barlean’s organic oils, The Essential Woman. It combines evening primrose oil with flax oil and works as an internal moisturizer that restores shine to your hair (not to mention glowing skin). I add mine to fruit with soy yogurt and smoothies.
When I can, I try to wear a leave in conditioner. I am a huge fan of Burt’s Bees Avocado Butter pre shampoo hair treatment. A pre wash hair treatment that delivers essential moisturizer, while olive and almond oil, rosemary and nettle extracts help give your hair a beautiful glossy shine. I use this to wear my hair slicked back and at the end of the day wash it out to reveal lustrous hair. Follow with PhytoJoba, Intense hydration brilliance shampoo for dry hair. Phyto 7 creme de jour hydration brilliance for dry hair works wonders. I recently modeled for Phyto at their NY headquarters and the stylist used Phyto 7 as a styling product on my hair before blow drying it. The result was silky, smooth hair. Humidity is a challenge during the summer months and these products deliver results. A haircare line that I recently fell in love with is John Masters Organics. I use the product Shine On, a leave in treatment for supernatural shine and Seamist, a seasalt spray with lavender. My favorite skincare line, Honey Girl Organics, has a hair serum that is worth checking out.
Remember the less ingredients the better. Less is more when it comes to haircare.
If all else fails rock a short style. Definitely less maintenance!
All products are available at Wholefoods.
PhytoParis is available at Sephora.
