Understanding the Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea has become more and more popular over the years. While people may have been attracted to green tea's ability to boost metabolism and burn fat, there are a number of reasons why green tea should be part of your diet. Let's take a closer look at the health benefits of green tea.

Green tea

Metabolism Booster

There have been studies that have shown the weight loss effects that green tea offers. While it was once believed to simply be a by-product of the caffeine, even those that drank a decaffeinated version lost weight. While there are supplements that contain green tea extract, health professionals recommend drinking the tea instead. You should also avoid sweeteners, which could override the health benefits.

High in Antioxidants

Why are antioxidants important? Antioxidants do a number of things for the body depending on what type they are. In the case of green tea, the antioxidants work to protect the DNA and protect the body from cancer and blood clots.

Fights Cancer and Heart Disease

There are a number of reasons why green tea helps the body fight against cancer and heart disease. First of all, green tea is high in antioxidants. Second, green tea aids in weight loss and lowers cholesterol, which can both lead to heart disease. Green tea can also improve the flexibility of the blood vessels, which makes blood clots less likely.

Possible Prevention of Diabetes, Strokes and Dementia

As mentioned above, green tea's ability to aid in weight loss may help the fight against diabetes. Green tea can also be a great prevention against strokes. While studies have shown that green tea can prevent strokes, no one has figured out why. Last, but not least, green tea may be able to ward off dementia. As the tea is digested, chemicals are produced that protect the body against dementia.

While it is uncertain how much green tea should be drank each day, it is certain that there are health benefits to this beverage. It doesn't matter if you need to lose weight or not. It's easy to see that green tea can act as protection against many common diseases including heart disease, diabetes, dementia and even high cholesterol. Best of all, green tea is safe. The only thing you should watch out for is consuming too much. Drinking too much green tea can cause insomnia due to the high level of caffeine.

5 Tips To Improve Your Life Quality

Being healthy means different things to different people, to some it means being able to run for miles without having to stop, for others it means beating a disease or illness for others it’s simply feeling happy about themselves. No matter how you define being healthy here’s some tips everyone can enjoy.

Skin

If beauty is only skin deep you need to make sure your skin is well looked after and healthy. This isn’t just for vanity, your skin is the largest organ of the body and you probably take it for granted unless you have a skin problem. Make sure you’re drinking lots of water every day, different sources will tell you to drink different amounts but as a general rule of thumb just try replacing two thirds of the fizzy drinks and tea and coffee you usually drink with water. Be more careful about what you’re eating too, a diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables will product clearer skin than a diet full of junk and sugar. You skin will naturally shed and it’s shedding all the time but help it along by using a loeffler.

Hair

For many women their hair is their crowning glory and it’s not hard to understand why we spend so much time and money on this part of our bodies. Just take a stroll down the hair care isle of any supermarket or watch the commercial break of any reality TV show. With advertisers spending millions of dollars every year trying to win our custom we want perfect hair. Don’t believe everything you see on TV, if a shampoo claims to give you healthy looking hair it’s probably not healthy underneath where it counts. Try to avoid using hair dryers and straighteners on it every day as too much heat will damage it. Always give it a burst of cold water when you wash it and this will bring out the shine as will using the coolest setting on your hair dryer.

Body

This is nothing we don’t already know, eat less and move more. The amount of fruit and vegetables you’re advised to eat will depend on what country you’re in (governments set these based on how many they think they’ll be able to convince people to eat). Don’t stick to crazy diets, just limit the junk and processed foods and increase the natural wholesome foods you’re eating. You may lose weight on certain diets but once you start eating normally again you’ll soon put it all back on. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and getting lots of exercise. Always keep fresh fruit around the house and dried fruits at your desk so you’ve always got something healthy to snack on.

Mind

The mind is a terrible thing to waste; you can’t make yourself smarter but you can strive to better yourself. Try leaning something new, a new instrument or a new language if you want something not quite as long term something like learning to knit or to do origami. You might just want to do something as simple as picking a subject area that interests you and reading up on it, star gazing, a particular point in history. Whatever you do you need to make sure it’s something you really want to learn. Don’t take on too much at once, just pick one thing at a time and move on once you’ve had enough or you feel you’ve learned everything you wanted to learn.

Finance

This can be the hardest part of your life to turn around, you can’t just eradicate your debt with the power of positive thinking but you can change your mind set on how you view your finances. Setting a strict budget won’t work for everyone but you at least need to have a clear grasp of your in comings and out goings and the former needs to be larger than the latter. Sign up for online and phone banking and make sure you always know exactly how much is in your account at any one time. Try and get a small safety cushion built in so any unplanned emergencies don’t send you into a panic and cut back on any unnecessary expenditure, do you really need that designer coffee on the way to the office each morning? Could you buy the cheaper brands when you’re grocery shopping? After a while this will all become second nature.

Last but not least – never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

To help towards your healthy lifestyle invest in a new piece of cheap home fitness equipment like a cheap vibration plate or cross trainer, the expenditure will be a great motivation especially if you leave the receipt taped to the machine!

A Guide to Gym Etiquette

It's that time of the year again: the time when we all look in the mirror, remember when we got out of breath running for the bus last week and promise ourselves that this is the year we get fit.

If you're hitting the gym, there are some basic etiquette rules that you should be aware of.

Attire

It's important that you wear the right clothes for your work out. If you're not comfortable donning spandex hot pants and a tiny vest, baggier clothing is fine, but make sure it is lightweight and not excessively loose. At the other end of the scale, make sure that the outfit you choose covers your modesty.

Footwear is essential: trainers or specialist shoes are the only options suitable. You must support your feet properly as a good grounding for any exercise.

Accessories

In addition to the above outfit, you should carry a small towel at all times, in order to wipe down machinery after use. If you don't have a suitable towel, most gyms should provide disposable paper roll to sanitize equipment – just ask. While water bottles aren't an absolute must, they are highly advised. Keeping yourself hydrated is important throughout all activities.

Machines: treadmills, cross trainers, etc.

When using cardio machines, there are a number of considerations. Firstly, if you don't know how to use them, ASK. All gyms should run a basic introduction program.

After you jump on your chosen machine, consider how busy the gym is before you start a program. If there are people queuing up behind you, an hour-long run is highly inconsiderate. During busy times, 30 minutes is the generally accepted period of use. Finally – always wipe down parts of the machine you've had contact with afterwards.

Weights

Most gyms have both weights machines and free weights areas. Consult with your gym staff about what is best to use in order to reach your exercise or training goals.

Again, as space is limited in a gym, there may well be a queue for equipment. In between doing sets of reps, allow other users to use the machine and/or dumbbells. If you're using a weights bar and plates, continue your sets and reps without swapping in with other people, unless they are happy to lift the same weight as you – swapping plates between sets is very time consuming. Yet again, make sure your towel or wipes are handy in order to clean the equipment for the next user!

Finally… KNOW YOUR LIMITS

Don't push yourself beyond what you can comfortably achieve. Challenge yourself, certainly – but if you ever feel sick, dizzy or severely out of breath, seek help from staff.

It's often not considered to be the case, but exercise is fun! Allow yourself to enjoy it and soon you'll be putting that annual gym membership to good use.
