When a woman’s hair looks good, she feels good. There is a natural bounce in her step and a bit more sparkle in her eyes. A woman’s hair with its bounce and sheen can often be directly related to her attitude for the rest of the day. Hair, just like a woman, should be appreciated for its natural beauty. There are such products found in nature. Oils are a wonderful and often inexpensive way to restore hair’s luster without having it bogged down by chemicals. Fortunately, there are products available that enhance these natural oils. But what oils are the best?

5 Best Oils for Hair Conditioning

Here is a list of five essential oils found in nature that increase hair health and have been proven to make a woman walk with a little more confidence:

1. Avocado Oil: This natural oil contains vitamins A, B, D, and E. It also makes hair softer and stronger.

2. Coconut Oil: Coconut oil promotes hair growth and is great for the prevention of dandruff. Like avocado oil, it is great for strengthening hair as well.

3. Olive Oil: Olive oil is a miracle oil. Not only is it a low fat way to cook food, but it works with hair as well. It increases hair strength, promotes growth, and eliminates dandruff. Olive oil can also be used to prevent lice.

4. Castor Oil: This oil cleanses the scalp while moisturizing at the same time. It increases hair growth and prevents hair from falling out.

5. Lavender Oil: This oil can be found in many cosmetic and bathroom products, but it has many positive uses for hair health as well. This oil has a wonderful scent and promotes hair re-growth. It has been recommended for use by individuals with alopecia (a disease that causes hair to fall out).

While these oils are the most commonly used for scalp conditions and hair problems, there are many others that can be used individually or combined with others to tackle specific problems depending on skin type and ethnicity. When searching the internet for uses of products that include these oils, beware of homemade remedies that could do more damage to the scalp. The hair and scalp are two very sensitive areas and need to be treated as such. The best way to find and purchase products that will benefit the scalp is to search reputable sites such as Beauty.com (link is to hair oil search there) for cosmetic formulas. We also love this list of bestsellers at Folica. In addition, DHC makes some great oil products for both hair and face. Also, asking a physician or beauty consultant what might be the best for the specific needs of a scalp or skin condition could reduce the possibility of meeting with an unknown allergy.

Again, a woman’s hair is her finest accessory. She must treat it well in order to enhance the glow that Mother Nature gave it. Natural and essential oils are a healthy non-toxic way to recharge the glow of follicles and kick start a drab color. Natural and healthy hair will make a woman radiate confidence, move with grace, and flaunt the innate beauty that can often be hidden behind chemicals and unpronounceable ingredients.

Lace front wigs have become so valuable in both hairstyling and addressing hair loss problems. These wigs are affixed on a mesh lace around the front portion; it is a fine lace that blends well with a person’s hairline. As long as it is attached properly, the lace front wig will look so natural on the head that it would be almost impossible to distinguish it from the wearer’s real hair. They are also available in a wide array of shades, styles, and qualities that would fit with any hairstyle requirements a user might need. Because of its versatility and stylishness, lace front wigs have grown so popular with celebrities and ordinary people alike. More significantly, these wigs have helped individuals who are suffering from hair loss by providing them with an easy way to bring back a beautiful crowning glory.

Buying this wig is an investment and to get your money’s worth, it should be properly attached and removed. Below are some helpful guidelines in using a lace front wig. If you follow them carefully, you will protect your natural hair and at the same time enjoy your wig much longer.

Attachment

A lace front wig can be attached using liquid adhesive (glue) or tape. Any of these adhesives can firmly hold your lace wig as long as it is attached properly; whichever you want to use is up to you. The important thing is to apply the adhesive correctly so you won’t have problems in removing the wig later on. To secure your natural hair, put a wig cap on and ensure that all the areas where your real hair grows are covered. The color of the wig cap should match the color of your skin for a more imperceptible look. If you want, you could use a scalp protector to safeguard your skin from the glue or tape.

The lace base on the front part of the wig will be attached to your head just right below the hairline, so you have to ensure that this portion is clean, hair-free, and oil-free. Apply a little alcohol in a cotton ball and wipe your hairline until all the oil and dirt are gone. Wait for 30 seconds to let the alcohol dry before applying the adhesive.

Using Glue or Liquid Adhesive: Most liquid adhesives for lace front wigs have an application brush but if it doesn’t, you can use other small brushes like a makeup brush. One very important thing to remember is to apply the glue thinly and evenly; it should be spread one inch beneath your hairline. After the glue is applied, carefully put the lace base of the wig on top of it. Let the glue dry for 15-20 minutes and your lace front wig should be firmly attached. You can also use a blower to hasten the drying process.

Using Tape: This application is closely like using the liquid adhesive. Wig tapes usually come in a roll or in strips and are double-sided, which means that the adhesive is on both sides. Peel off the first side of the tape strips and stick them around the skin just below the hairline. Once the tapes are in place, unpeel the other side and gently place the lace base over the adhesives. You need to make sure that lace front perfectly meets with the edges of the tape strips. Press the lace base onto the adhesive for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. The application is the same for the nape but you may have to use a mirror to be able to do see the whole process.

Removal

You can use isopropyl alcohol to remove the lace wig but if you want to preserve your wig and protect your skin, a wig solvent can aid in dissolving the adhesive. Spray a generous amount of wig solvent along the lace front but be sure that the solvent does not get to your eyes. If you don’t have a wig solvent, dab some alcohol on a cotton swab and wipe the lace base. You will know if the solvent or alcohol has softened the adhesive because the lace will begin to peel off from the skin on its own.

Try to take the lace base off from your skin slowly; if a portion of the lace still sticks, never force to take it off. Apply more solvent or alcohol until the lace peels off totally on its own. When the lace base is completely detached, take the wig off of your head and remove any remaining adhesive by wiping the lace base across a mirror. The mirror’s glossy surface should take out any residues without harming the lace. Put the lace front wig back on a wig head or any other safe storage. You should then wash your face to get rid of any excess dirt or adhesive.

Photo credit: Flickr Creative commons: ppacificvancouver

The trend toward embracing things that are “green”; eco-friendly, and organic is extremely popular and growing every day. This is wonderful news as the more people who jump on board the effort to respect and care for our planet, the better we’ll all be in the long run. What was once viewed as a sort of a “fringe” or neo-hippy movement has become ever more mainstream, which is especially evident when we consider all of the beauty salons that are proclaiming their green, earth conscious status. But, what does that really mean? Let’s take a deeper look at the why’s and what-for’s of environmentally-conscious beauty.

A good place to start is with a few definitions. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) describes “natural ingredients” this way – “… extracted directly from plants or animal products as opposed to being produced synthetically.” Therefore, natural ingredients are:

Not produced synthetically
Grown, harvested, and processed in an ecological manner.
Free from petrochemicals
Extracted or processed using only natural ingredients as solvents
Not exposed to irradiation
Not genetically engineered and contain no GMOs.

Eco-Friendly is a term that means “not harmful to the environment.”

There are many excellent reasons to seek out all-natural products. For example, the chemicals found in most standard hair care products can be harmful to your health and also to the health of the planet. Their ingredients have been found to cause mild to severe skin irritations, allergies, autoimmune disorders and cancer. They also contribute to the toxification of our planet when they find their way into landfills, and from there go on to pollute the air and water.

These reasons are why environmentally friendly spas and salons are becoming so popular all over the world. New salons are being constructed using recycled materials such as reclaimed wood, and making use of solar/wind powered energy sources

Consumers are becoming more educated and aware of the dangers related to synthetic chemicals, and the beauty industry has responded in kind. Popular brands such as Opi nail polish are offering formulas which are free from DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. Salons are replacing traditional treatments for coloring, straightening and perming with natural and eco-friendly processes, and all-natural shampoos and conditioners as well as all manner of styling products line the shelves for retail sale.

Exclusive salon brands can be expensive, but there are more mainstream companies who have also begun to embrace the eco-friendly movement. The popular brand, Garnier has a line of hair care products which are offered for purchase in places like Target and Walmart, and Sephora, a popular cosmetics retailer, currently offers around 1,400 different products that feature natural, organic ingredients. Keeping in mind that packaging is a large piece of the puzzle, more and more companies are providing products in containers that are made from post consumer materials.

It is inspiring to see all of the ways people are becoming more aware, and taking positive action to bring about changes that will improve humanity for now, and for future generations.

Dying a person’s hair is the process of changing its color. There are three types of hair dye, permanent, semi-permanent and temporary dyes. Dye is used for a number of reasons such as, to hide a person’s current hair color or restore it to what it once looked like. For instance, a lot of persons who begin to see grey hair, dye their hair to make it appear darker. Some persons dye their hair to give it different tones to make it look funky or outlandish; some entertainers practice this as a way to “stand out from the crowd” or some simply do it to make their hair seem more fashionable. In the process of dying your hair, it is common for it spill onto other areas of the skin, especially onto the person who is applying the dye. There are a number of methods, items and products that can be used to eliminate dye from the skin, and this article will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to achieve this.

Required Tools

Soap bar

Facial cleanser

Hair dye remover

Body scrub

Cotton ball

Towel

Vinegar (distilled)

Baby oil or other forms of greasy cream such as petroleum jelly

Oatmeal

Sugar

Water

Instructions

Usually the first option for getting rid of dye from the skin is to purchase a dye -removing product from a beauty or cosmetic store. This is easy to use because the instructions are provided with the package. Some persons don’t use this option because the time it takes to get to the store and to get back to start applying it.

Take a cotton ball and dip it into baby oil or some greasy cream and gently scrub the skin on the areas where the dye has spilled until the dye comes out. This process may have to be done more than once onto the affected areas until the dye disappears.

Take a towel and soak it with distilled vinegar, then slowly and gradually rub it into the areas where the hair dye has been spilled until the dye comes out.

You can also use regular soap bars that you use in your bathroom to wash the affected area but this as to be done as soon as the dye spills.

If you happen to have a facial cleanser, this can be used to clean off any extra dye that may have gotten on your face while dying your hair. These products can usually be found in your local cosmetic store or pharmacy.

Body scrubs are great for getting rid of dye because it is made with exfoliating agents that work well on skin. You can also make your own body scrub by mixing oatmeal, sugar and water. Simply add body scrub to the affected areas and gently rub it into the skin until it starts to come out and then rinse the skin with warm water as you go along.

You can use regular toothpaste by either applying it to your fingers or onto a piece of cotton and rubbing it onto the skin. Then allow the toothpaste to sit for approximately 10 minutes and rinse the skin off with warm water.

Tips & Warnings

Try to get rid of the dye off the skin as soon as you have applied it the person’s hair because the longer you take to clean it off the harder it is to be removed. If none of the options used here proves to be effective, simple visit a professional who can assist with getting rid of the dye.

There is an effective prevention method to avoid getting dye onto the person’s face you’re your dying. You can apply Vaseline along the hair lining, behind the ears, around the neck or anywhere within that area that you think the dye may spill. If you don’t have Vaseline then you can use any form of greasy cream.

Keep in mind that some persons have very delicate skin and may have certain allergic reactions to some of the products that you use on their skin. So make an inquiry as to what the person may be allergic to.

Try your best when working around the persons facial area, not to let any of the products get into the persons eyes. If this happens you may have to visit a medical doctor.

Imagine spending precious time in the mirror to get lush, silky locks that look like you spent a fortune at the salon, only to get laughed at by onlookers after you leave the house. It’s an undeniable fact for many when you are up against the winter elements. The dreaded fly-away, notorious in winter months, is the bane of beautiful hair across the globe.

Fly away hair is caused by hair that lacks moisture yet retains static. In instances of a bad case of static head, the static filled hair follicles seem like they could serve as an electrical conduit as efficiently as any outlet, if not entertain co-workers for hours. In reality what is occurring is the static-laden hair dries out and becomes frizzy. This worsens when your hair already suffers from underlying breakage and damage along the hair shaft. To deal with a frayed and frazzled look, you could succumb to a new hairstyle with an ode to the fly-away, or fight the elements with finesse and take simple steps to tame your wild look without breaking your budget.

Simple steps to tame your mane:

1. Trim it: Go to the salon and get a solid trim. A quick trim can make a world of difference in the health of your hair. Ask the stylist to take a tad off the ends to alleviate breakage that could cause flapping fly-away syndrome. Spend a small amount for the beginnings of piece of mind.

2. Hydrate it: Pick up hydrating shampoo and conditioner that is specially formulated for mane-taming during winter months. Salon’s carry great products for this but you can also get similar products for less if you shop online. The key is to choose products that advertise “hydration,” “moisturizing,” or “anti-frizz” treatment.

3. Shampoo less: Shampoo every few days instead of daily. Your hair creates natural oil that prevents frizz and fly-away strands. Shampooing every day strips your hair follicles of these natural oils and dries it out quicker. Yes, you might have to contend with an oily head, which can be easily managed with a dab of baby powder or dry shampoo to absorb the excess.

4. Condition daily: Condition when you shampoo and then in between shampoos, using a leave in conditioner. The conditioner keeps your hair soft and smooth without stripping the cuticle of essential natural oils. A small dab of conditioner does the trick.

5. Limit use of heat products on the hair. Sometimes a hair dryer is required to get the look you need but if you can take some days off, now and then, do so. Overtime consistent exposure to heat causes dry hair and frizz. If you must use the dryer often, set the temperature on low and then at the end of drying blast a quick snap of cold air, which can also prevent fly-away mishaps.

5. Consider a specially formulated anti-frizz product for styling. A small tad, no more than the size of a dime, generally does the trick for keeping your hair frizz-free. You can find great products online, in stores or salons. Avoid spending more money than necessary by doing product comparisons. If you are on an extreme budget, a tap of hand or face lotion rubbed through the hair can also serve as a quick remedy for fly-away hair.

6. Skip the hairspray. Solid hold is important for sustaining a fancy-do but if you want natural tresses flowing in the breeze and do not require hairspray, it is to your hair’s benefit. Hairspray tends to dry the follicles more than necessary, particularly when used excessively. Try a spray gel or finishing balm instead to avoid the hairspray dry-out.

7. Try the dryer sheet trick: Keep a travel size container of dryer sheets in your bag to gently rub on your head as needed. Dryer sheets are good for static cling on clothes and for static of the head.

I’m sure you have seen and read fashion magazines that display stunning faces of models and celebrities; fully clad with the trendiest clothes and of course, the most fabulous-looking hair. Fashionable clothes are available almost everywhere and anyone can have them in a jiffy. But when it comes to having beautiful hair, well, it’s a totally different story. The hair is a woman’s crowning glory that’s why most ladies invest so much time and effort in making their locks as perfect as they can be. A few lucky girls are born with naturally shiny and attractive hair, but most of us are not. And because of this never-ending desire to achieve fabulous tresses, many hair treatments such as straightening, coloring, re-bonding, and curling have emerged. These treatments are fairly effective but in the long run, they can cause permanent damage to the natural hair.

What many of us don’t know is that models and celebrities don’t always sport their natural hair. Their crowning glory may seem all-natural when in fact they can just be artificial hair in the form of lace front wigs. These wigs are so natural-looking and the stars just love them! Lace front wigs were originally used in the movie and fashion industries but now they have been made available for all of us to enjoy. But what exactly is a lace front wig and how is it different from the other types of wigs? Well, let’s find out!

A lace front wig is an artificial hair that can be made from either human or synthetic hair. Lace front wigs made of human hair are of course more genuine-looking; the synthetic ones are also good as long as you are able to choose the right kind of synthetic wig and have attached it properly. Lace front wigs are named as such because the hairs of the wig are attached on a base of lace. This lace is so fine and almost invisible as it blends well with our scalp and skin; it can either be Swiss or French lace. The Swiss lace is thinner and very delicate, that’s why it should be handled with proper care because it can be torn easily. The French lace, on the other hand, is stronger and thicker but is more noticeable than the Swiss lace. First-time users are advised to use the French lace front wig since it is more durable. As you get more used to handling a lace wig, you can use the finer Swiss lace type for more concealment. This component is what makes a lace front wig different from ordinary wigs that are usually just worn through a clip. Because ordinary wigs are not sewn into a base lace, they are heavier and could get really hot on the head when used for a longer period of time.

Whether you want to hide thinning hair or just feel like fashioning the perfect hairstyle, a lace front wig is your best hair solution. You can never go wrong with it since it is the most natural-looking wig in the market today. It is so flexible and you could stay as active as you wish while you have the wig on; you can even swim or shower with it.

If you want an instant hair make-over, get your own lace front wig and achieve that perfect hair you’ve always dreamed of.

Beauty technology has come a long way, particularly over the past few decades. Women now use pulsed light and lasers to treat skin conditions and prevent wrinkles, hair color no longer leaves hair looking fake and frizzy, and gel nails can be cured under UV light for weeks of chip free wear. What is next? Several dermatologists and professionals in the beauty industry gave their opinion on the next big thing beauty. Here are the top five responses:

Non-Invasive Fat Removal

The ability to freeze fat with a painless and non-invasive procedure already exists, and multiple dermatologists predicted that it will become the next big beauty fad, with advances toward home fat removal machines. Using Coolsculpting by Zeltiq, patients spend one to four hours with a non-invasive cooling device on an area of fat that they want to eliminate. A few months following the treatment, the fat disappears. Debra Jaliman, a New York Board Certified Dermatologist and author of the upcoming book, Skin Rules: Trade Secrets From a Top New York Dermatologist, notes that the product is expected to be available in a hand piece soon, with the ability to treat the arms and thighs, while Kathleen Stegman, Founder of Midwest Medical Aesthetics, predicts that home machines will be developed to accomplish the same effect.

Collagen Renewal With Radiofrequency

Jailman predicts that the next big development in skin care will be from Thermage CPT, which uses radiofrequency to stimulate the body’s natural renewal of collagen. According to Jailman, it can work to tighten any area, such as the face, eyes, arms and legs. It is safe, effective, has no downtime, and patients can expect to see up to 10% tightening within 6 months.

Additional Increases in Needleless Technology

Aside from noninvsive fat removal and the use of radiofrequency devices, Dermatologists on the whole tend to predict large increases in other forms of non-invasive needleless technology. Dr. Shirely Madhere, of Soho Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery expects to see increases in light based technology and the use of stem cells to develop various non-invasive treatments that will produce surgical results without the surgery. Stegman also predicts that stem cell technology will continue to rise in importance.

Affordable Injections and Fillers

Multiple Dermatologists and beauty professionals observed that injections and fillers such as Botox, Juvederm, and Artfill have become more and more affordable. But products with multiple uses that will both relax wrinkles and fill lines are just around the corner and are expected to be rather affordable. What were once products reserved for those with extra money to spend will become standard for many women.

Healthy Hair Care

Mikayla DeSomer, a hair stylist in Naperville, IL, observes that hair care has entered a “green era” in which products have become increasingly healthier. For example, there now are products that are vegan and gluten free, as well as low ammonia, and organic products. Straighteners have evolved from relaxers that contain lye, to silky keratin treatments. Even in the short time that keratin treatments have been around, they have evolved from controversial unhealthy services, to formaldehyde free.

With respect to the next big thing in the beauty industry, De Somer feels that the clients dictate the future of hair and beauty. She notes that the upper class will always have access to more expensive, exclusive treatments, which sends companies into a frenzy to come up with a less expensive way to do the same thing. More often than not, that process cheapens the product and gives less of a perfect result. However, De Somer believes that this process is about to change with low maintenance, green products and services as the wave of the future. She notes, “as glam gets bigger, we want it faster and cheaper. If we can create a keratin treatment that will do the job, and have no trace of formaldehyde, etc., that will boost these treatments into being just as popular as the perm in the 80′s.”

As beauty technology evolves, we have much to look forward to. The future of beauty looks brighter than ever!

The holidays are all about being social. With parties, family gatherings, and celebrations, there are a multitude of opportunities to get glammed up and hit the town. Bask in the good cheer that’s inherent in the season and enjoy yourself without stressing over your tresses. With a little creativity you can create the perfect party coif. Here are a few of the best holiday hair styles to get you started.

How to Create Fun Holiday Hair Styles

The Updated Side Ponytail

Side ponytails are no longer relegated to the 80s. The new modern take on this asymmetrical look is sophisticated, yet fun. First create some bend in the hair with a large barrel curling iron. Leave a few inches free at the ends of the hair so that they remain straight. Spray the hair with a flexible hold hairspray for texture and grip. Rake your hair back using your fingers into a low side ponytail. Wrap your hair once around the elastic like you are creating a bun, but leaving the rest of the hair free. Pin the bun with bobby pins. Spray the remaining pony tail with more hairspray to rough up the texture. Pull out some individual pieces in the front creating a messy, sexy look, perfect for day or night. For shorter hair a messy side bun is a great alternative. Follow all of the side ponytail steps, but instead of leaving the ponytail free, continue to wrap your hair around the elastic, pinning it in place. Finish off with hairspray for hold.

Side Braids

This look is sleek, easy, and fights the winter time frizzies. First brush your hair smooth and consider using a frizz-fighting cream on the front of your locks. Part your hair in the center and make thin, french braids on either side stopping at the ears. Secure the braids with bobby pins and leave the rest of your hair down and flowing. For a more a more dramatic look add some waves to the loose hair with a large barrel curling iron. Spray with hairspray to finish. You’ll be able to keep your hair off of your face while still maintaining a soft look.

Vintage Waves

Vintage waves work on both short and long hair. For long hair use a 1-inch curling iron. Wrap your hair around the curling iron and hold for a few seconds. Repeat this process until you have a head full of curls. Using a round brush, blow dry your hair on a low setting while brushing out the curls. The result is sultry waves. Finish with hairspray. With short hair this style works best if you use a wave iron. Form a deep side part and then create tight waves around the head starting at the crown of the head all of the way down to the ends. Spray with hairspray and use a sparkly barrette to secure one side for a look that screams classic film siren.

These holiday hair styles are simple to create and will spice up your look. With a few minutes and the right tools you’ll be ready to celebrate the season in style. Pair these looks with a stunning outfit and you will shine at any party.
