Natural Makeup Look Tutorial

Affiliate Links

Here is a natural makeup look video tutorial from Sephora showcasing how you can easily achieve a no makeup look. By simply focusing on a few features in a neutral, but attractive way, you can present a beautiful carefree look. A transcript of the video follows (a more accurate one, the one on You Tube was clearly done by a bot and had some craziness in it!).

Video Makeup Artist: I really think that women want to feel really naturally beautiful and they really want that beauty so shine from within. A lot of women just want to either accent a couple features.

Maybe it’s their eyes or maybe its their cheeks, and maybe they really like having a really beautiful or natural lips, and the whole key is you know using all of these products combined to really make it look like you're not wearing any makeup and just bring out that inner beauty.

What I want to start with first is using a little bit of concealer under your eyes and this is going to really brighten things up a bit. By using a blending brush to blend out your concealer it really just gives you a really blended appearance and I see a great difference already.

And so the next part of your skin that I really want to focus on is  I want your skin to look like skin.  I don't want you to feel like you're wearing a lot of makeup, so we're going to start on the perimeter of your face on the outer portion here, because we don't want a lot of makeup towards the center. This is going to really balance out your skin tone so that you look very radiant and luminous all over.

A lot of time when we think of the no makeup look  e don't really think about doing eye shadow. But I want to show you one eye shadow that you can use. It’s a very neutral shadow and I want you to use it from lid all the way into your crease, don’t go all the way up to your brow. Use a pressing motion with the brush, just pack it on your eyelid here.  It doesn't look really obvious that you’re wearing an eye shadow, but it just really finishes your whole natural look.

So i want to move on to really making your lashes and just the upper part of your eye look really full and really make your eyes stand out some some more. So we're just going to do a little bit of eyeliner onto your lash line, and I want you to just keep it really close to your lashes. We want it to look very natural so we don't want it to be very defined. And by taking a smudging brush and just going over the eyeliner back and forth gently, it really makes it look extremely natural.

Part of the new makeup look is to really focus on your eyes so let's use a mascara, and we're going to use a water resistant mascara, and it's conditioning. I really want to be with the coat every lash so we’re just going to kind of wiggle it back and forth. I’m sure, you know, you’ve tried doing that before. And with this look you don’t want to to too, too much mascara.

There's so many different choices of lip glosses that you could do. and your lips are already kind of naturally pink, So I kind of  want to soften it just a little bit, taking your golden undertone into consideration, we’re going to use a light beige lip gloss because we really want your eyes to be the focus so that it really looks extremely natural.  And for the no makeup work a lip liner is not necessary.

All right so now you're ready with your  complete look to go out and have lunch with your girlfriends and they're going to be so jealous because they're going to think you don’t even need any makeup.

Guerlain Precious Lights Radiance Essentials Kit Review

I Bought ThisAffiliate Links

Guerlain makes some of my absolute favorite products for creating a flawless luminous look, especially Guerlain meteorites. Right now, they have available a limited edition collection, the Guerlain Precious Lights Radiance Essentials Kit.

Guerlain Precious Lights

the Guerlain Precious Lights set includes the following:

(1)  Precious Light Rejuvenating Illuminator: This light concealer has gold radiance pigment to blur the appearance of wrinkles and other issues by reflecting light. It also contains peptides to treat the skin.

(2) Guerlain Meteorites Perles Light-Diffusing Perfecting Primer contains also reflects light and conceals blemishes with color correcting properties (generous trial size).

(3) Guerlain Meteorites Perles (my favorite) provide six colors to use as a finishing powder that creates a glowing look unlike anything I have achieved with other powders (generous trial size).

Here are photos from the set.

Guerlain Precious Lights Kit

Guerlian Meteorites. I love these.

Guerlian Meteroites

The Perles Primer. I find that it doesn’t color correct all that much, but it lends to the overall luminous glow that you can get when using these products together.

Here is a swatch of the Guerlain Illuminator. This rubs in to diffuse and reflect light.

Guerlian Precious Light Illuminator Swatch

Overall, this is a very nice set and it can be a great way to try these products without dishing out a ton of money for full sizes of the meteorites and primer. One caveat, the shades are geared for fair to light skin. They can be pretty forgiving, but I still wouldn't recommend the kit for anyone who doesn't consider themselves fair or light.

Makeup Wars Valentines Day Look

Valentine’s day is upon us! Do you have your plan ready? My husband and I are headed to Two Brother’s Brewing for their annual beer and food pairings. It is a 7 course gourmet meal, paired with Two Brothers beers, and they always break out some special brews for the event.

For Makeup Wars this time around, the group decided to do a Valentine’s Day makeup look. Since I had just gotten my Urban Decay Glinda palette (see review and swatches here), I was itching to put it into action, and it seemed perfect for a romantic feminine look.

Urban Decay Glinda Tutorial

The Eyes

The Glinda palette came with a “get the look” card and I decided to give that a try. I applied some Urban Decay primer potion and then followed the card.  The look used Aura (top middle pan) on the brow bone, Illusion (bottom left pan) from the crease up to the brow bone, South (bottom right pan) on the lid, and Tornado (top left pan) at the outer corner of the lid and a bit under the lower lashes. The eyes were lined with the purple 24/7 liner from the set, and Aura and was swept over it. Aura and Magic (upper right pan) are also used in the inside corner and under the lower lashes. I tend to go easy with the inside corner though since I wear contacts. I used Clinique high impact mascara on my eyes.

The Face

For my foundation, I used Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm as a primer. I have yet to write my review of this, but I’m not a big fan of it in the true BB cream sense. However, as a tinted primer for other makeup, it is fine. I then applied the new Make Up For Ever Pro Finish powder foundation, yet another item that I still need to write up the review on. This is an awesome product! It can be applied wet or dry, and I love it dry for really nice coverage. Unfortunately, I have quite a bit of pigmentation, acne, and redness to cover, and the MUFE product worked great.

On my Cheeks are a Purely Pro Hi Lite in Flirty worn as a blush with a bit of Guerlain Meteorites swiped over it to set it (I forgot to add that to the photo).

The Lips

The lips have a Fuchsia Dara Z liner that I have come to love. Over that is the Super Saturated Lip Color from the Urban Decay Glinda set.

Here is the look.

Urban Decay Ginda Look for Valentine's Day

Here is a bit of a better look at the shadow.

Urban Decay Glinda Look

After putting this all together on a Friday afternoon, I used it as an excuse to go out for dinner! We went to Chapins in Morris, Illinois, which I highly recommend. It is a gem of a restaurant in an unexpected place for that.
