Best Beauty Products of 2012

Urban Decay Naked Skin, with the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush: Naked skin wears incredibly well and, when applied and buffed with the optical blurring brush, it gives a flawless airbrushed look. It has become my all time favorite foundation.

Lorac Unzipped: This was the best of the nude/neutral palettes this year. A perfect selection of matte and shimmer shades.

Laura Mercier Artist Eyes Palette: A wonderful all around palette with shades perfect for just about any occasion.

Fyrinnae Eye Shadow: This indie company offers unique blends of high pigment micas and oxides for stunning shadow looks. Try their Pixie Epoxy for making super glittery shadows stay put!

Urban Decay Vice Palette: Who can resist a palette full of new UD shades? This one was a winner all around.

Nars Lahasa: Simply a beautiful purple dark taupe. Love it!

MAC Nail Lacquers: I love MAC nail polish and was glad to see them make a number of shades part of their regular collection.

Urban Decay Smoked Palette: Another winning palette from Urban Decay. This one offers all that you need for sultry smoky looks.

L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow: High pigment lightly pressed shadow at decent prices and readily available. Great for those who love pigments but want to save a few dollars.

Skin79 BB Cream: My favorite BB cream this year. It covers well and wears wonderfully.

Darling Girl Eye Shadow: Another indie brand with great pigment and a silky smooth formula. I like their base formulation quite a bit for a loose shadow. I also found a taupe that I am in love with among the samples that I ordered.

Cinderella Palette: A surprisingly good eye shadow palette that is more grown up than you would expect. Nice shades in an attractive package.

Lorac Pro Palette: Another wonderful all around eye shadow palette with a great selection of useful shades.

Essie Luxe Effects Top Coat and Bikini So Teeny: Bikini So Teeny was my favorite polish shade of the year, and a Luxe Effects top coat looked great over it!

The Balm Shady Lady Vol. 2: The Balm is seriously underrated in my opinion. The Shady Lady Volume 2 was one of their palettes that I tried this year and I found it to be super pigmented, with little fallout and long wear.

Youngblood Creme Powder Foundation: A very nice cream foundation that very well might have become my new favorite if Naked skin hadn't come into the picture. I still wear this one a lot too, especially when I want something more portable.

Silk’n Flash and Go: The hot new product in permanent home hair removal. This one can be used on the face.  See our comparison to the Tria for decisions on which to buy (I love the Tria too).

Smashbox Masterclass: A super palette of shadows, blush, lip products, and highlighters. It is all that you need for any look with quality products.

Makeup Wars: Holiday Wish List

This week Makeup Wars presents their holiday with lists. Here is mine. I focused on some beauty items I have wanted for awhile, but then tossed in a couple of  fashion items from Nordstrom that I want as well.

Guerlain Precious Lights Radiance Essentials Kit:  I love Guerlian and this set has my favorites from them all packaged together!

Dior Celebration Palette: I always want the Dior holiday palettes, and this year the shades in the Celebration Palette are perfect for me!

YSL Pure Chromatics Palette: I ahve been dying to try these wet/dry shadows from YSL.

Guerlain Liu Eye and Lip Coreography: Inspired by Asian looks, this bold lip and eye palette is simply beautiful.

Sephora By OPI Gel Shine at Home System: I have been curious about Sephora's new gel nail system for use at home. This is a great gift set for giving it a go!

Napoleon Perdis Brush Roll Set: I love good brush sets and this one has everything you could need in its own brush roll.

Pandora Bracelet: I have wanted to customize my own Pandora bracelet for some time. A gift card or shopping trip to be able to do that would be awesome!

Marc by Marc Jacobs, Classic Q Baby Groovee Satchel: My last orange bag is on its last legs and I adore the looks of this one!

Diamond Eternity Band: Because I want more finger bling!

There it is! What do you want this holiday season? For more wishlists from the Makeup Wars group, click on through the links below!

Great Beauty Stocking Stuffer Ideas

As the holidays approach, many people have begun making their Christmas shopping lists. Aside from the primary gifts that will be wrapped and placed under the tree are the smaller gifts to fill up stockings. If you have girls or women on your list this year, you may want to consider great stocking stuffer ideas with beauty and primping themes.

 Christmas Stocking Beauty

Makeup

Makeup is usually small and a great choice for sticking in a stocking. Since some makeup has to be chosen by the person themselves, like concealer, opt for the types of makeup that look great on everybody:

• Nail polish in red or a neutral color
• Black mascara
• Eyeshadow in a medium shade of brown
• Bronzer in a subtle shade
• Lipstick in a light coral

Another great option is to get a makeup set. You can find a compact with several different shades of eyeshadow or lip gloss. Get her a collection of eye pencils. If she loves to give herself funky makeup makeovers, colorful mascaras are a great gift idea. Think about her style and choose makeup accordingly.

Bath Items

For the woman who loves lounge in a hot bubble bath to unwind after a long day, there are plenty of spa items to stick in her stocking:

• Bath salts
• Miniature tubes of scented bubble bath
• Candles to put around the bathtub
• Bath fizz bars in cute shapes
• Scented soap

Travel Items

Every girl likes to stock her pocket book with must-have items for when she’s on-the-go. Make her life a little bit easier with these beauty supplies in travel sizes:

• Bobby pins
• Brush with an attached mirror
• Box of Q-tips
• Sample-sized perfume bottles
• Body lotion with SPF
• Toothbrush and toothpaste

Hair Care

What girl doesn’t love to spend time making her hair look perfectly coiffed? Stuff her stocking with these haircare essentials:

• Teasing comb
• Battery-operated, travel-sized hair straightener or curler
• Refreshing dry shampoo spray
• High-quality shine serum
• Expensive shampoo or conditioner

More Ideas

Beauty stocking stuffer ideas don’t stop there. Consider these great, pint-sized beauty gifts to surprise her with on Christmas morning:

• Body glitter
• Eau du parfume towels
• Eyelash curler with extra pads
• Fake eyelashes
• Lip balm in her favorite candy flavors
• Lip scrub
• Makeup bag
• Makeup brushes of different sizes
• Mirror
• Nail designs you can stick on
• Rosewater spray
• Salt scrub for the body
• Scented hand cream
• Tweezers

If there’s a specific brand that she likes, why not fill up her stocking with a selection of products? For example, if your daughter loves Bumble and Bumble haircare products, get her several trial-sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner and other products. If she loves MAC makeup, fill up her stocking with the latest MAC items.
