Beauty Box Five Review

October and November are all about subscription boxes for me. I will be reviewing around 10 of them and then will also make a big comparison video. Today looks at Beauty Box Five, which is one of the better value boxes in my opinion.

Beauty Box Five

At $12/month, Beauty Box Five is relatively affordable. The box itself is not as nicely packaged as some others, but it is decent enough. In each box are 4 or 5 samples of beauty products.

My box (August 2012) had the following items:

  • Blinc Eyeliner
  • The All Natural Face Vegan Eye Shadow
  • Everyday Minerals Blush
  • Blum Naturals Oil Absorbing Face Tissues
  • Comodynes Easy Peeling facial Mask, New Face Effect
I have not tried any of these before, so I was happy with the selection. I also liked that it was more cosmetic oriented than skin care. Overall, I liked the box and think it is a pretty decent value. My video review of it is below.

L’Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara

L’Oreal has come out with a very effective version of a “tube” type of mascara. If you are not familiar with how tubing works, it essentially coats the lashes all around and lengthens them in a manner that forms tubes around each lash. These tubes look like little strings when you wash off the mascara. Blinc Kiss Me Mascara (read previous review) is the original of this type and is wildly popular, although I wasn’t really crazy about it. I do like L’Oreal's version quite a bit though.

L'Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes Mascara

L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara (also see the product at Ulta.com) is a two part system. First, a primer is applied, then a tubing mascara is applied over it. I am fundamentally lazy, so I get a bit annoyed by two part systems, especially if they aren’t really good. Fortunately, I found the L’Oreal Beauty Tubes mascara to be quite nice, so I didn’t mind the extra step.

L’Oreal Double Extension does a great job at lengthening. I got more length out of this mascara than any other that I have tried in the past several months. I also had few problems with clumping, and the mascara wore well--no flaking and such. It wears OK with contacts, but be careful about removing the mascara with your contacts still in because it removes in little strings.  I don't think one of those in your eye with a contact lens in would be pleasant!

Overall, I was quite happy with this one. I like it better than Blinc Kiss Me Mascara. Plus, it is much cheaper and can be found at any drugstore. I highly recommend this one!
