Les Regards De Chanel Palette Swatches

Every year I buy myself a luxury beauty item during holiday shopping. This year, I picked up the limited edition Chanel palette: Les Regards De Chanel. The palette includes three eye shadows, two brow shadows and an eyeliner. The shadows are finely milled, and the pigment rocks. I had a hard time getting it to wash off my arm after I swatched it! The brow shadows double just fine as eye shadows, which is nice if you like a matte look.

The shades in this set are perfect for a neutral look, whether that be for day or evening,. I particularly love the taupe eye shadow shade. Below are pictures of the Chanel palette and swatches.

The photo on the left is taken without flash, right is with flash. Notice how that really changes the appearance. I think the version without flash is more brown than the shades really are, while the flash makes everything more gray/taupe than they are.   Left to right/top to bottom: Taupe shadow, brown shadow, eyeliner, eye highlighter shadow, brown brow shadow, lighter brown brow shadow.

Here is Chanel’s photo of the palette. Things look more gray/taupe here, but I think they are not really quite as taupe as they appear except for the taupe shadow in the upper left corner and the highlighter shade. Still, this is pretty true to color.

The Best of CHANEL Cosmetics

I have been focusing a lot lately on affordable makeup (link is to posts in the affordable makeup series) and have been somewhat neglectful of the luxury brands. Luxury has its place as well, and I adore many of the luxury items, so I thought I would try to concurrently do a series on the best of the luxury cosmetic brands. First up is CHANEL.

CHANEL is known for many luxurious items and their fragrances, handbags, and clothing probably stand out the most for many women. But Chanel makeup is also divine. CHANEL eye shadows and powders are all finely milled with full pigment. The lip products are also especially nice. Packaging is also pretty, sleek, and classic.  CHANEL nail polish also always stands out, with their limited edition items always being highly sought after and quickly sold out.

CHANEL makeup kit

COLLECTION ESSENTIELLE DE CHANEL MULTI-USE MAKEUP PALETTE: FACE - LIPS - EYES is the best way to sample the best of CHANEL. This CHANEL Paris-New York palette is formulated with neutral colors that will compliment just about any skin tone. The collection has two cream concealersicon, a cream blush, three eye shadows, one cream lip color and and two glosses. the taupe shadow is particularly gorgeous. At $85 it is a great value for the brand since buying these items separately would ring up a much larger bill.

CHANEL MAkeup Brushes

LES MINIS DE CHANEL GIFT SET COLLECTION OF SIX ESSENTIAL MINI BRUSHES .icon Personally, I love mini brushes and buy them over ones with full size handles. The Blue Nail Trend: Getting it Cheap with Wet-n-Wild!

Wet n Wild Nail Lacquer Polish Sapphire Blue When it comes to the trendy blue nail polish look, I'm a fence sitter. I have seen some women, particularly younger women, wear it well. In the darker shades, I tend to rather like the look. On myself, however, I think it looks rather silly--Something my husband very much agrees with.

Regardless, there is no need to break the bank buying sold out Chanel on Ebay or spending $20 on the Dior version in order to have the current hip look in nails. The cheaper brands are already stepping up and putting out blue shades. When chasing a trend, buying cheap makes sense. You are unlikely to use up the product before it goes out of style anyway

At the cheapest end of the scale, you can get a perfectly acceptable polish in Wet 'n' Wild for a couple dollars at your local drugstore. As one of those impulse grocery store purchases, I picked up Wet 'n' Wild Sapphire Blue for under $2 and gave it a try. The quality of the polish was surprisingly good. It covered well with only a single coat, dried quickly, and has been almost as chip proof as my more expensive polishes. Plus I kill nail polish so fast, that chip proof means little to me--I chip even the best within a day. Here is another view of it:

Blue nail polish trend
I think the blue looks odd on me, but that is not the fault of the brand. I plan to give Wet 'n' Wild another look for some shades that are better suited for me. Why spend $8 for Essie or O.P.I. when a $2 brand at the grocery store works just as well? The shade choices are more limited though and I have to admit that my favorite shades happen to be from Essie and MAC. So I doubt I will be entirely switiching brand loyalties. Here are a few other affordable options for blue nails (both currently on sale for under $6 through the links): OPI Nail Polish Yoga-ta Get this Blue! from the India Collection, and Essie Nail Polish - Aruba Blue. Other bargains can be found online, as can the more expensive Dior version. Also watch for all of the drugstore brands to play catch up and start releasing their own blue shades.
