Lancome Fashion Focus Chicago Collection at Macy’s

I was unable to get downtown for Fashion Focus Chicago this year, but for you Lancome lovers in the Chicago metro area here is a bit of cool news:

In celebration of the Fashion Focus sponsorship, Lancôme will unveil a special makeup collection called The Fashion Focus Backstage Beauty Collection available exclusively at select Chicago Macy’s locations beginning September 20th until October 31st. A portion of the proceeds from the collection will benefit The Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI), a fashion program that supports six emerging Chicago-based designers. CFI is a part of the Mayor’s Fashion Initiative, which supports and promotes fashion designers living and working in Chicago through events, seminars and city programs.

The Fashion Focus Backstage Beauty Collection was inspired by the women who walk the Magnificent Mile every day and features a beautiful range of chic and wearable naturals hand-picked by Lancôme’s Alex Sanchez. Products include: NEW! Color Design Palette in Golden Glitz $42.00, Color Design Blush in Freeze Frame $27.00, Color Fever Shine Lipstick in Femme Fire $25.00, Color Fever Gloss in Hotness $23.00, Artliner in Noir $28.00, Le Crayon Khol in Black Coffee $23.50, Hypnôse Mascara in Black $24.00, Blending Shadow Brush # 17 $26.00.

The following Macy’s locations will carry the collection: State Street, Water Tower, Old Orchard, and Woodfield.

You can view some photos and swatches of the collection here.  I am going to Woodfield Monday and am tempted to pick up the palette and lipstick!

Fall Makeup Trends with M.A.C. Cosmetics

MAC Cosmetics Cult of Cherry With their involvement in so many aspects of the beauty industry and multitude of runways shows, M.A.C. Cosmetics is always on top of the trends. Actually, they often set the trends! So I was happy to meet up with M.A.C. representative, Heather Park, and  M.A.C. senior makeup artist, Konstantine Mironychev in Chicago a while back to take a look at what is in store for fall.

One of the top runway trends from M.A.C. that I have already seen on the street is the rich and dark lip. It is often worn with little else to make a statement on its own, or for a twist that is new this year, it can be coupled with a rich smoldering and stand-out eye color, as seen from the Cult of Cherry Collection pictured to the left.

The collection has some of the most interesting and gorgeous eye quads that I have seen from M.A.C. in some time and, the mattene lipsticks in the collection are fabulous. this is my most recommended fall collection.

Another trend for fall is the brightly colored eye, with neon themes from pop art or punk-rock glam looks inspired in part from the 80’s. For some particularly dramatic pigments, look to M.A.C.’s Overrich collection .

Pretty feminine looks with a bit of an artsy eye or almost nude or androgynous looks with a pink lip are also around. So if the deep dark shades are too much for you, pair a neutral mineralized skinfinish duo from the  New View Collection with a pinkish nude lipglass for a simple, yet classy look. Or do the same thing but with more color on the lip if just the overdone eyes are too much for you.

Manicures and Martinis

I was at a Chicago area Chophouse and Brewpub, the Brockway Chophouse in Palatine, and received a flyer for their Manicures and Martinis event. $35 includes a manicure plus tax and tip, and a martini (available in lots of yummy sounding flavors). I had not seen this before, but apparently these events are quite common in many areas.

It looks like a fun time. A Google search can likely pull up similar events in your area.

For anyone in the Chicago suburban area, the Brockway event is held on the following Mondays: March 26, April 30, May 28 and June 25.
