Mascara Monday: CoverGirl Eye Lights

Cover Girl Eye Lights CoverGirl Mascara Custom made for various eye colors, CoverGirl Eye Lights claims that it will  make your eyes seem brighter. I picked up a tube at ULTA and found that it is a decent enough mascara that maybe adds a bit of brightness to your eye color.

The mascara itself has a medium to small rubber type wand, which is the kind that I tend to particularly like. It is generally clump free, even when in a bit of a hurry, and it wears well—no flaking or smudging etc.  Lengthening was average. I was happy enough with it, but you won’t get overly dramatic lashes from it. Volume was also average and this isn’t a curling mascara (although I maintain that no mascara should be bought for curl—if you want that use an eyelash curler). The upshot is that it is fine for standard everyday use.

As for the brightness claims, I sort of, maybe, possibly, thought that it worked a bit. But that could have also been wishful thinking, or the fact that I wore a good eye shadow shade. I think that I get more noticeable results in terms of eye brightening from wearing a navy blue mascara, which definitely does enhance the whites of the eyes.

Overall, buy this one for a standard everyday mascara if you are curious. If you don’t get any noticeable brightening of the appearance of your eye color, you still will have a perfectly useable mascara.

Mascara Monday: Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper is essentially the same mascara as CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara.  I happen to like both quite a bit and the CoverGirl one is sometimes cheaper.

This mascara provides good volume and decent length and definition. I haven't had clumping issues with it.  Mostly it’s focus though is on volume with a decent amount of length as well. I find the thick tube a bit odd (it just feels fat to me), but if that is my only complaint, then it must be a decent mascara!

The brush is average size, with no real taper, and the mascara wears well without flaking. Despite the lack of taper to the brush, I am able to do my lower lashes OK with this one. But I could see that bothering some people.

Of the various drugstore mascaras, this is one near the top of my list. Just be sure to see which mascara is cheaper or might be on sale when you buy. CoverGirl Lash Blastor Max Factor 2000 calorie.

CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Shadow and Tropical Fusion Look

300

CoverGirl has some wonderful new Eye Enhancer shadow shades out and some great looks can be created with them. I watched a webinar presented by CoverGirl and will show one of the looks that be created from the Tropical Fusion CoverGirl Eye Enhancers Set (pictured).

Below are swatches from the quad. The second color from the right is a mix of the turquoise and yellow shades in the quad, which makes a pretty light green as used in the look below.

First off though, a bit about the shadow: The CoverGirl shadows are pretty good in terms of pigment. These have a nice color payoff and staying power that you normally won’t see in such an affordable shadow. When I swatched these, it took a bit of work to wash them off! So they are a really nice value. They also have some wonderful bright shades, so if you aren’t afraid of some color, you will find great choices at a bargain price.

One of the fun looks that can be made with the Tropical Fusion is called Caribbean Eyes.

look

To create this look, apply the turquoise shade to the lid. The CoverGirl shadows build well, so you can make this rather sheer or you can build up the crease more, as you desire.

Now, add the yellow shade over the top of the of the turquoise. I like to use more of it in the center of my lid than the sides for a pop of color there. Blended well, this will give a pretty light Caribbean green look that is really rather luminous—more so than the swatch picture shows.

The eye is lined with the royal blue shade.  Work it in with a press brush and then smudge it out some. You can wet the shadow for a finer line or more intense look.

The  peach shade in the quad can be used as a blush, especially on darker skin. It is not really as orange as it appears in the quad, but it does have quite a bit of pigment--a bit too much to use as blush on my fair skin, but it would be fine on medium to dark shades of skin.

The lips were done in CoverGirl Amazemint Happy Houricon, which looks blue in the tube but is actually clear, with a nice cool tone and taste. For more on the CoverGirl Amazemint glosses, which contain Crest peppermint oils, see my review on Girl Gloss.

CoverGirl cosmetics can be purchased at virtually all drugstores and big box retailers.
