DDF Protect and Correct UV Moisturizer With SPF 15

DDF Protect and Correct DDF always tends toward impressive products. I particularly love their new Protect and Correct UV Moisturizer aimed at treating and preventing hyperpigmentation and melasma.  I have always been a fan of double duty products, so this one goes high on my recommended item list.

DDF’s Protect and Correct is a light moisturizer with four chemical sunscreens for SPF 15 coverage. It also contains various extracts, including licorice root extract, to help treat pigmentation. So, the sunscreen prevents discoloration, while the extracts treat it.

The lotion has a decent feel to it, absorbs fairly quickly, and I had no issues with acne with it. I do wish it had a higher SPF though. I really prefer to use SPF 30 and above. A physical blocker in it instead of all chemical ones would be nice too. Regardless, it still is a quality product.

DDF Protect and Correct retails at around $58 and can be found at various online sources.

Bioelements and DDF: Two Good Acne Masks

I’m starting to get fed up with my adult acne, so I made a dermatologist appointment. In the meantime, I am trying out some treatment masks, both as spot treatments and as all over masks. There are two that I highly recommend: Bioelements Amino Mask and DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask. Each are good, but also slightly different. Notably, the Biolelements mask includes Salicylic Acid and less Sulfur, while DDF is a higher concentration Sulfur Mask

Bioelements Amino Acne MaskThe Bioelements mask is described as follows:

For All Skin Types Medicated facial mask helps prevent and clear acne blemishes. Draws-out pore-clogging debris, soaks up excess oils, calms inflammation and promotes fast healing of existing breakouts. - Medicated acne treatment mask - Contains 3% anti-bacterial sulphur and 2% salicylic acid - Unclogs pores, destroys acne bacteria, controls excess oils and helps heal existing blemishes No artificial colorants, synthetic fragrance or animal by-products. Not tested on animals.

When I used Biolements Amino Mask, I found that it worked well– both as an all over mask, and as a spot treatment. It feels like any other clay type mask and does a good job at absorbing oil and removing the gunk in your pores. But I particularly like this one as a spot treatment. Put a bit on a blemish and leave it on overnight. The Salicylic Acid helps dissolve the gunk, while the Sulfur provides good anti-bacterial acne treatment.  Meanwhile, the mask as a whole absorbs oil had helps draw everything out.

DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask Acne TreatmentDDF’s mask contains 10% Sulfur. For those who want maximum anti-bacterial agents, this one is great. I tend to use it more as an overall face mask once each week, although it will also work as a spot treatment.

One thing to note. Sulfur doesn’t smell really good, and because these masks contain it, they obviously have an odor.  I don’t mind it at all, but if you are sensitive to sulfur smell, you might not care for these.

DDF Moisturizing Dew

DDF Moisture DDF Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew provides light oil and fragrance free moisture with antioxidant Grapeseed extract and Vitamins A, C, E. It is free of acne causing ingredients, and a tiny amount is sufficient to give light moisture to the entire face.

I have been using DDF’s Moisture Dew for some time and find it perfect when my skin is on the oily side. Although when I am dry, I need something a bit heavier. This is by far, my all time favorite moisturizer for oily skin and acne treatment, and it comes highly recommended for those who need some light moisture as part of an acne treatment system.

DDF products tend to run a bit on the expensive side. However, the amount of product needed is tiny, making it more of a value than it seems. There are some decent drugstore light moisturizers, but I have yet to find a comparable drugstore product than can provide oil free moisture in a formulation that is as light as this one.

DDF Fade Gel 4 Melasma Treatment, Treating Melsama and Acne Together

When my recent favorite treatment for melasma and hyperpigmentation from PCA Skin Care (read review) ran out, I decided to try a similar product from another brand simply for review purposes. That always makes me a bit nervous, because when I find something that works, I hate to switch. But in this case there was no need to worry. DDF Fade Gel 4 has been working wonderfully for me.

DDF Fade Gel 4 Treating Melasma and Hyperpigmentation Skin Care

I chose DDF for a couple of reasons. First, I like melasma treatment products that contain multiple active ingredients, because studies have shown that combining and switching between actives is more effective in producing fading. DDF Fade Gel 4 meets that requirement with some of my favorites, such as glycolic acid, kojic acid, salicylic acid, lemon and lime oils, azelaic acid, and 2% hydroquinone. Second, I have been having some issues with acne, and DDF’s Fade Gel does not contain any ingredients of particular concern for causing acne, while its glycolic, salicylic, and azelaic acids can treat and prevent acne — Might as well get double duty from a product when you can!

Using the DDF Fade Gel in the mornings, and in combination with an evening application of Renova (Retin-A), along with a daily sunscreen, such as Philosophy A Pigment Of Your Imagination SPF 18 (Read Review), I have continued to see further lightening on pigmented areas. Of most importance, there has not been any darkening, despite the fact that I decreased my treatment regime to one application per day so that I could use the evening to focus on acne. I also saw no increase in my acne from using the DDF product and believe it helped in my overall treatment of both my acne and melsma.

Overall, I give DDF fade Gel 4 a big thumbs up and highly recommend it for melasma treatment or for general hyperpigmentation or discoloration. I particularly recommend it for those who are also treating acne or seeking to prevent breakouts. Something to note is that PCA Skin Care was fine for acne as well, so I find it and the DDF product to be pretty interchangeable. In the future I will likely buy whiever is cheaper or on sale.

For those concerned about hydroquinione, DDF makes DDF Intensive Holistic Lightener which is a hydroquinone free lightener. I haven’t tried that one and personally prefer hydroquinone since I have no problems with it. However, some are sensitive to hydroquinone or concered about cancer risk reports with it. For those who want to avoid it, the ingredient list is pretty good with the following ingredients: albatin, arbutin, bearberry extract, mulberry extract, licorice, skull cap, azelaic and glycolic acids. I wish kojic acid was in there though.

If you go with this one, I suggest combining it with Philosophy a Pigment of Your Imagination, linked above, in order to add some kojic acid to the mix. You should be wearing sunscreen anyway for the best treatment, so you might as well get double duty from your choice of product!
