Two Must Try Makeup Looks For Spring

Wearing makeup is one of the easiest, exciting ways to express inner creativity. Whether you prefer to emphasize the eyes or a bold lip look, makeup techniques can be incredibly diverse and easily customized depending on your mood or the occasion. This spring, try mixing things up a bit with one of these two new trends.

Beautiful, Bright Eyes

Bright eyeshadow look

The purpose of wearing eye makeup is to accentuate the beautiful color of the iris and to make eyes appear larger. One spring eye makeup trend that'll make peepers pop is vibrant colored eye shadow. While fall entails a more sultry, smoldering smoky eye look, spring time makeup should reflect a fresh, bold appearance. Bight colors like teal, orange, lime, hot pink and amethyst shades will certainly hook onlookers and emphasize any eye color. If sporting a full lid of in-your-face color seems intimidating, simply line the eyes in one of the bold shades with a flat, angled eye liner brush. Avoid wearing lipstick, as that will promote a clownish appearance. Instead, wear a nude lip or sheer lip balm.

Prominent, Pastel-colored Lips

For the risk takers seeking another new spring look, bold colored lips is worth a try. A popular upcoming spring trend is pastel colored lips. With a plethora of blooming flowers accompanying the spring weather, pastel lip shades are certainly compatible with the natural scenery. Red lips made a statement last year, but 2013 is definitely the year of pastel shades like lilac, periwinkle, marigold, teal and violet. Wear minimal eye makeup to ensure the lips are the main focus, undoubtedly demanding a double-take. For the ideal fashion-forward look, pair the stunning pastel lipstick with only mascara on the eyes and rose-tinged cheeks.

With two striking looks growing in popularity this spring, choosing may be difficult. As long as the eyes or the lips are highlighted in bright hues, there's no denying how captivated others will be.

Makeup Wars: The Best Waterproof Makeup

This week, Makeup Wars looks at the best waterproof makeup. I don’t wear a lot of waterproof items, but I do have a few favorites that I particularly like to get out for hot and humid weather. Sweating off your makeup is no fun, so these items are great for avoiding that!

Here are my two favorites for eyes:

MUFE Aqua Eyes

(1) Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes: Aqua Eyes are the ultimate in waterproof eyeliner. These liners come in a ton of shades, are soft and easy to apply, and then they stay put. I have swam with these on before and the color didn’t budge. However, they remove just fine with a good eye makeup remover such as Lancome Bifacial, or you can remove them super easy with an oil cleanser such as DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

Diorshow waterproof

(2) Diorshow Waterproof mascara: Diorshow is one of my favorite mascaras and the waterproof version stay put and looks great. This is a cult classic mascara for  reason!

Here is a new item that I really want to try!

tarte aqualillies palette

(3) Tarte Aqualillies Eye and Cheek Palette: This new Tarte Aqualillies palette has been getting good reviews and claims to be waterproof. The color selection is also great for summer. I fully intend to order this and give it a try!

Makeup Wars: Favorite Cream Eye Shadows

This week, the Makeup Wars bloggers look at favorite cream and pencil shadows. My favorites in this area have long been MAC Paint Pots.

MAC Paint Pots

MAC Paint Pots go on creamy and smooth and dry to a silky finish that stays, and stays, and stays. There is no creasing and no fade. These things last! In fact, removal is a bit difficult, since a standard eye makeup remover often doesn't take them off. I use an oil cleanser such as DHC Deep Cleansing Oil to remove them.

MAC Paint Pots come is a multitude of shades, both regular and limited edition. Below are swatches of favorites from my collection.

MAC Paint Pot Swatches

Pictured in the sun are Indianwood, Runbenesque, Moss Scape, Nice Vice, Painterly, Constructivist, Delft, Artifact, Greenstroke, Fresco Rose, and Cash Flow.

Below are the same colors in the shade.

One of my favorite combinations is Painterly, which is a very neutral shade on fair skin and Constuctivist, which is a pretty brown/taupe shade. I like to pair these for a long wearing natural look. I have them on in the photo below.
