Makeup Wars, Great Holiday Metallics

The Makeup Wars group is looking at holiday metallics this week.  I decided to go dig through my favorite source of metallics, MAC Pigments, and see what I liked in the gold and silver range. I also have a new Laura Mercier gold eye shadow that I just adore. Plus, as a bonus, I dug up a blast from the past with a look at white and gold holiday nails from the 2007 MAC Antiquitease collections.

Between these you could go for a neat holiday look such as this one from the 2007 MAC collection, which was one of MAC’s best holiday collections in my opinion. I think their holiday collections have become a bit more generic the past few years.

Metallic Pigments

Pigments are great for holiday metallics. The high amount of pigment allows for the shimmer to really show well. Apply them wet for even more color pop. Here are a few favorites from my stash.

MAC Pigments

Here are swatches of the pigments in the shades Reflects Antique Gold (a glitter), Silver Fog, Gold Mode, Rushmetal, and Blonde’s Gold.

MAC Pigment Swatches

Silver Fog and Blonde’s Gold are available in the MAC regular collection. The others were limited edition.

Laura Mercier Eye Shadow

For a beautiful limited edition shadow that you can get right now, check out the shade Gilded Moonlight from the Laura Mercier Art Deco Collection. This true gold is gorgeous and is packed with pigment.

Gold Holiday Nails

Metallic polishes are great for the holidays. In 2007 I copied the MAC Antiquitease nails by applying a flat white polish, followed by gold that was dabbed at with a paper towel. It makes for an easy to do nail art project.

I couldn’t find my old high res photo of it, but here is a smaller photo.

Too Faced Glamour To Go Spun Sugar Swatches

Too faced always makes cute eye shadow palettes and their Holiday offering always are good gift items. I ordered a couple of items, the first of which was the Too Face Glamour to Go Spun Sugar Set, which has eight shadows, a bronzer, a blush, and a gloss. This is limited edition for holiday 2012.

The outside packaging is cute.

Too Faced Glamour To Go Kit

The shadows in the set are festive metallic type shades and the package includes a mirror and slide out drawer holding the gloss, bronzer and blush.

Too Faced Glamour to Go Palette

Below are swatches of the eye shadows in the Too Faced Glamour to Go Spun Sugar palette. Pigmentation in them is fine. Not outstanding, but not terrible either. The gold shade second from the left seemed to lack pigment more than the others.

At $22, for the set, it is a very good value. Too Faced is also cruelty free.

Below is a video review of the palette with additional swatches.

Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons Swatches, Review, Video

Be sure to check out our Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons Holiday 2012 Giveaway!

The Too Faced Shadow Bons Bons Palette is a nice holiday set containing 12 pretty eyeshadow shades, a tube of Too Faced Shadow Insurance Primer, and a Lashgasm Mascara. It is packaged nicely for holiday giving, or would be a nice kit for yourself.

The shades are pretty. Pigmentation on them is fine. Not outstanding, but perfectly acceptable. The texture is good. I like this set better than the Too Faced Glamour to Go Spun Sugar set, which I will be reviewing new week. It is a great gift set for the holidays.

Below are swatches of the Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons Palette. The eyeshadow shades are:  Vanilla, Cut the Cake, Framboise, Coffee Bean, Peach Fuzz, Hot Cocoa, Candy Rose, Lovey Dovey, Nude Beach, Cinnamon Sugar, Marzipan, and Licorice Latte.

I want to give a quick shout out to the Too Faced customer service on this one. I bought my palette from their website and it arrived with a pan of shadow broken and spread around the inside of the kit. I contacted them and, after they had me send a photo of the broken kit, they promptly sent me a new one. I was able to clean the old one up enough to swatch and used the broken powder for that shade (it was Cinnamon Sugar that broke). So, I decided to use the new one as  reader giveaway since I have no shortage of eye shadow around here! See the link at the top of the page for the giveaway!
