Canmake Japanese Cosmetics

Canmake Cosmetics is a Japanese makeup brand that specializes in cute sparkly colors and fun makeup. They remind me quite a bit of Etude House, which is a Korean company that produces rather nice products at a very reasonable price.

Canmake Cosmetics

A few of my favorites in the Canmake Cosmetics line are the sparkly nail polishes in bright colors, such as light blue, the cream cheek colors, the Canmake eyeshadow kits and the really cute Canmake makeup bag in pink.  They also make an interesting fragrance wax.

You can buy Canmake from the US or other countries outside of Japan through YesStyle.com, which is an online retailer focusing on Asian fashion, beauty products, handbags, shoes and accessories. I love them for finding unique items and interesting handbags, and their international shipping if affordable and pretty quick.

Fiberwig, The Best Tubing Mascara

P269503_hero If you like tubing mascaras such as Blinc Kiss Me or Kevyn Aucoin Mascara (links are to previous reviews) you owe it to yourself to try d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig Mascara. Fiberwig is a Japanese mascara that is just now available in the United States through Sephora. However, I first came across it by ordering it from COSME-DE, a company that carries a good number of harder to find Asian cosmetics. Fiberwig is one of the best selling mascaras in Japan if not the absolute top seller (I have seen claims that it is).

Fiberwig is essentially a tubing mascara, which means that it forms “tubes” around your lashes with fibers, which tends to last well without smudging or flaking,  However, I find that some tubing mascaras have a tendency to clump easily, while others never quite looked right for me. That was not the case for me with Fiberwig. The mascara seems ever so slightly thinner to me than other brands, which allows it to apply well without clumping. Yet, it is not so thin that it is hard to get length or volume.   It dries very quickly and I find that, with one coat, the lashes have a nice natural look and, with two coats, they can take on some more dramatic length and fullness. The mascara wears very well for me all day without a flake in sight.

The Fiberwig mascara that I ordered has a slightly curved brush, which also actually did add some curl to the lashes. So, that was a bonus.

Overall, this is a nice mascara and is the best tubing mascara in my opinion. You can find it at Sephora.

DHC Eye Shadow Palette and Eye Shadow Brush

DHC is a Japanese skin care and cosmetics company. I am a long time fan of DHC skin care products, especially their Olive Oil cleanser (read review) and White Sunscreen (Read Review), but I had not tried any of the DHC makeup. Having read some good things about various DHC makeup items, I decided to change that by ordering some.

My first review is of the DHC Eye Shadow Perfect Pro Palette iconin topaz, and the DHC Eye Shadow Brush icon. I am impressed with both. Below is a photo I took of the palette.

DHC Eyeshadow Palette

The first thing that struck me about the DHC Eyeshadow palette was the packaging. A little door opens up over the applicator, and then a mirrored door opens over the eye shadow. It is unique and attractive.  The shadow itself is fine. The shades are rather light, and sort of remind of some of the Clinque light neutral shades. That is also fine with me, but if you like really dramatic eye shadow, this might not be for you. The shadow also generally wore well for me. I also like how it is packaged, with the largest pan being the base shade and the liner as the smallest. It balances out the use better that way!

DHC Eye shadow brush

DHC also makes a line of synthetic brushes and sells them at a pretty good price, so I added an eye shadow brush to my purchase. This turned out to be one of the best synthetic brushes I have ever used.  Most cheap brushes will have some initial hair loss and might not feel all that soft. But the DHS brush that I bought was quite soft and not a single hair fell out of it. So I was left quite impressed with it, especially considering its $9 price tag.

DHC icon items are only available online and through mail order. You also get your choice of four samples with every purchase and each mail catalog comes with a sample or two (or sometime three or four) in it. So it is a good mailing list to be on!

Update: The brushes appear to be discontinued.
