Lancome Fashion Focus Chicago Collection at Macy’s

I was unable to get downtown for Fashion Focus Chicago this year, but for you Lancome lovers in the Chicago metro area here is a bit of cool news:

In celebration of the Fashion Focus sponsorship, Lancôme will unveil a special makeup collection called The Fashion Focus Backstage Beauty Collection available exclusively at select Chicago Macy’s locations beginning September 20th until October 31st. A portion of the proceeds from the collection will benefit The Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI), a fashion program that supports six emerging Chicago-based designers. CFI is a part of the Mayor’s Fashion Initiative, which supports and promotes fashion designers living and working in Chicago through events, seminars and city programs.

The Fashion Focus Backstage Beauty Collection was inspired by the women who walk the Magnificent Mile every day and features a beautiful range of chic and wearable naturals hand-picked by Lancôme’s Alex Sanchez. Products include: NEW! Color Design Palette in Golden Glitz $42.00, Color Design Blush in Freeze Frame $27.00, Color Fever Shine Lipstick in Femme Fire $25.00, Color Fever Gloss in Hotness $23.00, Artliner in Noir $28.00, Le Crayon Khol in Black Coffee $23.50, Hypnôse Mascara in Black $24.00, Blending Shadow Brush # 17 $26.00.

The following Macy’s locations will carry the collection: State Street, Water Tower, Old Orchard, and Woodfield.

You can view some photos and swatches of the collection here.  I am going to Woodfield Monday and am tempted to pick up the palette and lipstick!

Today Only: Buy a Limited First Edition Lancome Oscillation Mascara

LAncome Oscillation Limited Edition MascaraLAncome Oscillation Limited Edition MascaraLAncome Oscillation Limited Edition MascaraLancome is releasing a vibrating mascara in December. But you can buy a limited first edition of it today only (July 31, 2008) at select stores. Visit the Lancome Website for details.

Supposedly this can also be ordered through Sephora, but when I checked a few minutes ago, it was not available and it was unclear whether the item was sold out or not placed up for sale yet. It could be ordered on the Lancome site though.

I also heard this morning on Sirius Satellite Cosmo Radio, that they would be giving some away throughout the morning.

Lancome UV Expert SPF 20 Sunscreen With Mexoryl SX

Lancome UV Expert MexorylA Sunscreen that I had long wanted to give a try is Lancome UV Expert SPF 20 with Mexoryl SX. I finally got around to doing so!

Mexoryl (chemical name ecamsule) is the first new sunscreen approved by the FDA since 1988. It helps cover short UVA rays, which can account for a good amount of skin damage, yet are not generally covered by other chemical sun filters. When combined with other sunscreens, it can provide a product with full spectrum protection. Mexoryl is claimed to be very photo stable as well, although I have seen mixed reports on that. Essentially, I don’t trust it to be as protective as a good physical blocker such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, so I recommend reapplication after an hour or two despite some claims to the contrary. Lancome’s UV Expert combines Mexoryl with other chemical filters and titanium dioxide. Thus, it contains both chemical filters and a physical blocker. Together the product provides full spectrum protection that lasts over a decent amount of time.

I really like the feel of UV Expert. It is lightly moisturizing, but not overly so, and does not feel greasy in any manner. It also spreads very well, so a little goes a long way. I found that I use about half the amount of UV Expert compared to the the amount I use of various drugstore brands. The sunscreen has no unpleasant scents and does not leave any sort of white tint behind.

Lancome UV Expert has become my sunscreen of choice for day to day wear. When I plan to be outside for a lengthy period of time, I still go for something with a greater percentage of physical blockers. But for my daily drive to work, or when out running errands, UV Expert is perfect.

(almost) Everybody (except me) Loves Proenza Pink

OK, so I keep seeing blog after blog raving about the limited edition Le Rouge Absolu, Proenza Pink from Lancome. The shade was designed for the Proenza Schouler spring runway and created by Gucci Westman Neville in consultation with the two men behind the Proenza Schouler name.

It is limited edition, it is exclusive to Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and four Lancome boutiques. It will likely be wildly popular, sold out, impossible to find, and cost a small fortune on eBay.

Why? Is it the fancy name(s), the limited edition, or both? Will people rave about it without ever actually trying it simply because it exists? I predict they will. But I have to say, I just don’t get this one. I like pink and I like pink cosmetics, but this shade is just too pale, and too whitish pink. To be fair, I did see one blog where the author did indeed wear it and liked it, but admitted that it might not be for everyone. She also described it as a zinc or milky pink: See blogdorfgoodman.

Anyway, I definitely agree with one of the few blogs that I saw questioning it: The Non-Blonde: Two Notes to the Good People at Lancome. She questioned how a person could wear the shade and still look alive. I like experimenting and I like fun colors, but with expensive limited edition stuff, why can’t they be more universally attractive????

Just a little rant for today….. :)
