Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

Laura Mercier Cosmetics offer an array of products aimed at created the “flawless face.” On of those items is the very good concealer, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer
Secret Camouflage is one of the best concealers that I have used. Although it can be purchased in single shades, I recommend the dual shade version because there is more flexibility when two shades are available. The concealer provides full coverage that, if warmed on the hand first and applied with a brush, blends quite well. It isn’t the best concealer for applying with the fingers. For the undereye area, the darker shade of the duo works well. For covering redness, melasma, pigmentation acne, etc, the lighter is used, or is mixed with the darker shade.

It really is all about the coverage with this stuff. It does so much better at covering melasma than most concealers that I have tried. When using it, be sure to apply it after foundation, and set it with a bit of powder.

Review: Laura Mercier Foundation: Oil Free and Silk Creme

Laura Mercier Oil-Free FoundationA change of season always makes me search for new foundation. I like something light and oil free in summer, while in winter I want a bit of moisture. I also tend to need decent coverage because of I have areas with light melasma and hyperpigmentation. I recently tried two different Laura Mercier foundations, one for lighter, oil free coverage, and one for full coverage. I am quite happy with both.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation provides light to medium matte coverage. It also has illuminators to help fine lines seem less apparent. The luminating quality of it is what I like. I have not seen that much in oil free foundations. The foundation is also fairly buildable, so you can create sheer coverage in some areas and medium in others. However, it did not build enough to fully cover my areas of melasma. I added a bit of concealer for that. The shade porcelain ivory worked quite well for my very fair skin.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme FoundationLaura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation is one of the best foundations I have come across for medium to heavier coverage that is also moisturizing. Although the foundation seems rather light, it covers quite nicely, and like the oil free foundation, can be built up for heavier coverage as needed. Also like the oil free foundation, it has some illuminating properties. Laura Mercier advertises “the flawless face.” Applied over a silicon primer, and finished with a touch of concealer and powder, I did obtain a nearly flawless look. The shade soft ivory worked well with my pale skin.

Laura Mercier products are not cheap. But I will likely continue buying the silk creme foundation. That one is worth the higher price to me. I like the oil free foundation as well, but am wavering on whether I think it is really worth the $42 price tag. Perhaps if I had oilier skin and really desired or needed the luminizing factor.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer

Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation PrimerAs part of my ongoing quest to find the perfect foundation, I recently tried some Laura Mercier products. In the process, I decided to pick up some of the oil free primer, which tends to get very good reviews.

The Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer is a bit different from other primers that I have used. Instead of being silicone based like Smashbox Photofinish, or DHC Velvet Skin Coat, the primer feels like a light moisturizer. Because of that I found pros and cons to it.

On the good side, the primer feels wonderful. It goes on silky smooth and gives a light moisture, yet it is oil free. I had no issues with breakouts when using it. It also contains some particularly good illuminators, so it gives the skin a wonderful radiant glow. I have found that I like to wear the primer best when I am not wearing foundation, solely for the illuminating effect.

On the downside, I don’t know that it primes for foundation all that much better than a regular moisturizer. Silicon primers tend to really smooth out the skin and fill in fine lines to make foundation look great and last longer. The Laura Mercier product does not fill in lines and smooth the skin the way a silicon based product does. Nor did I notice it make my foundation last longer. I would say that it stayed on about the same as if I had simply used a light moisturizer first.

The cons, however, do not make this a bad product. It is a product that I highly recommend as long as the expectations are correct. I love it for its ability to act as an illuminating oil free moisturizer. In fact, I think it is one of the absolute best of those out there and I will keep using it as such. But I don’t find it to be a foundation primer in the way I have tended to define the term.

I also tried several of the Laura Mercier Foundations and Concealer. Watch for reviews of those soon!
