Amazing Cosmetics Mineral Makeup Makeover

I prefer pressed mineral makeup and also like to avoid bismuth, but finding a bismuth free pressed mineral makeup can be difficult! My favorite had been Sephora Brand, but when I went to refill mine, they told me that it was being discontinued! Awhile later, I was at Ulta and walked around checking the ingredients on all of the makeup brands and found one, just one, that had a pressed mineral makeup without bismuth. That was Amazing Cosmetics Velvet Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation. The Amazing Cosmetics rep happened to be at the store, so I had my whole face done, which allowed me to try a few other items as well.

Coverage with Amazing Cosmetics Mineral Makeup was pretty good. Apply it with a brush for sheer coverage, use the included pad for medium, or as the rep showed me, try a makeup sponge for more full coverage. It builds pretty well too, so I can apply it sheer to medium on most areas and then put extra over my areas of melasma. The selection of shades is not huge, but is OK, and the packaging is nice, with a mirrored compact. I found that it wears very well. I get most of a day out of it, which is more than I often get from powder mineral makeup. So, this is a winner, which is good since it is one of the few bismuth free pressed mineral foundations out there (Neutrogena and Jane Iredale also make bismuth free pressed mineral foundations and if you want a good bismuth free powder mineral makeup, check out Purely Cosmetics).

Anyway, like I said, I had the rest of my face done, and I liked Amazing Cosmetics overall. Here is the look, using Amazing Cosmetics Suede Eyeshadow Collection in Wheat, a couple of fabulous lip products, Amazing Cosmetics Lipcolor in Oliva and Amazing Cosmetics Lipgloss in Kathy, and a new favorite blush for me, Amazing Cosmetics Blush Matte in Pink Chocolate. All wore wonderfully, and I ended up buying the lip products and the blush to go with the mineral foundation. Overall, I was quite glad that I tried the Amazing Cosmetics brand. They have quality products all around.

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Ultra Soothing Lip Tint

I have reviewed this on Girl Gloss, but I like it so much that I am reviewing it again here (plus I just bought a new tube of it)! I really love the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Line by Carmindy. If I had to go with only drugstore one line to wear, it would be Natural Beauty. Their lip gloss: Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Ultra Soothing Lip Tint is also about as good as it gets for a light tinted gloss.

The gloss comes in a squeeze tube. The texture is non-sticky and light, and the shine is very good. The tint is subtle and sheer, but it shows up and gives a light hue to the lips. Sally Hansen added a light flavor to the gloss with natural pomegranate and cranberry.

You can find the Sally Hansen Natural Beauty line at many drug stores and retailers such as Targer. I picked up mine at a CVS store. I have also found Natural Beauty makeup at Ulta.

Calvin Klein CK Lip Gloss

I got a little tube of Calvin Klein CK Lip Gloss in my Sephora Favorites Get Pink’d Pink Lip Deluxe Sampler. I loved the sampler, and most of the products in it, but I didn’t care all that much for this gloss . It was sticky, sticky, sticky! It had a very nice pink tint, but did I mention that it was sticky?

Then I had a sense of dejavu. I had reviewed a different (but similar) CK gloss once for Girl Gloss. Guess what? That one was sticky too!

I love the over all Sephora sampler though. They have a number of different favorites sampler and all are a great way to test a number of products at a great value.

MAC Cosmetics Rose Romance Collection

M.A.C has a really pretty limited edition collection out right now, The Rose Romance Collection. If you are fan of rose shades, or are looking for some light spring colors to update your look, this is a good collection to look at!

The collection includes a nice range of lip shades, including some very lovely see through lip color shades. These are are very versatile, long lasting lip stains. There are also some pretty eye shadow shades, two rose beauty powder blushes and more.

This is probably one of my favorite collections from M.A.C in a long time. I love the new lip shades and the eyeshadow shades are perfect for spring days. Add some pigment to liven them up for an evening out. The beauty powders give off a natural looking blush that isn’t overbearing. There are more items in the collection that you can view on the MAC site. I figured that I would just highlight my favorites!

Stila Spring Collection

I love that all of the spring collections are out now! I am tiring of deep winter shades. Bring on the pinks an pastels! The Stila Cosmetics Spring Collection looks particularly nice this year. I love the new pearl shimmer glosses (read review at Girl Gloss) and the Stila Precious Pearl Palettte eye shadow palette looks gorgeous.

Of course, the palette includes the wildly popular shade, Kitten. It also has a number of nicely coordinating shades for spring. I love the green and blue!

Two Faced Naughty and Nice Palette

The Two Faced Naughty and Nice Palette is a cute and fun way to get two entirely different looks. This palette comes with a slide out drawer holding a lip and eye applicator and two separate sides of eye and lip makeup. The “nice” side of the palette consists of neutral cream and browns with a bit of shimmer. The “naughty” side has a pretty violet shadow shade, along with a silver and sparkly black. It also has more vibrant lip shades.

I like Too Faced products, especially their eye shadow. The pigmentation is good and they wear well. The lip shades in this kit are a bit sheer, especially with the lighter shades. Below are swatches of both the naughty and nice palettes.

This palette is featured in episode one of the Home shopping Network’s online series Faces of Beautiful You. In that episode, Nicki and Smith share the secret of the “transition outfit” as Hallie prepares for a blind date. The Too faced Palette is certainly good for making a day to evening transition!

Three Beauty Uses For Jell-O and One that Doesn’t Work

Powder Jell-O is a secret beauty item in the cosmetic world. Here’s how:

1) It imparts a natural stain. Rub some Strawberry or Cherry powder on your lips for a natural tint and top with a clear gloss. Mix with a bit of water and you have a natural looking cheek stain. I have read of its use to stain other parts of the body as well.

2) It is a tasty scrub. Pick the non-sugar-free flavor of your choice and rub the powder onto the lips for a great sugar scrub exfoliation. Tip: because it will also leave a tint, I recommend avoiding lime green or other flavors with odd colors!

3) It is good for the waistline. Put a bit of powder in a vial for your beauty uses and make the rest up into diet friendly snack. Take a look at the Jell-O recipe page for a section on healthy snacks. Note: Jell-O is not vegetarian.

Unfortunately though, despite rumors to the contrary, eating Jell-O will not make your nails stronger.
