The Best of Fashion Week: Must Reads From Around the Net

I’m not at fashion week, but I sure am reading a lot about it! Here are some of the best reports out there.

MACddoori

M.A.C. Cosmetics has been sending out face charts from the shows that they did, such as the one pictured from the Doo.Ri  show. If you like those, Temptalia is publishing all of them. Plus, you can can see a real life picture of the look in Beauty Addict’s backstage report.

Estee Lauder hosted a number of top beauty bloggers at the company headquarters, with Bobbie Brown in attendance. Read all about it at Beauty’s Spot, or head over to Makeup Minute for a look at Bobbie Brown’s makeup for the Tory Burch show.

I really love feminine neutral makeup and MAC did a great look for the Vincente Villarin show. See it at Beautiful Makeup Search.  Also browse that site for more spring looks.

Everyone talks about the clothes at New York Fashion Week, and the makeup comes in a close second. But what about the shoes? Running in Heels has a must read report on the shoes of fashion week!

Second City Style has an interesting list of celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst, Julia Stiles, Jessica Alba, and more who attended only one show.

Finally, for much more, take a look at Inside the Tents.

In the meantime, the web has been alive with fashion week reports. Here are a few must read sites:

* Follow the impressions of a plus size woman at New York fashion week in documentary form in On the Plus Side: A Fuller Figured Fashion Week Experience at the Style It Website. This is a must see item! Thanks to the Girl-Woman-Beauty-Brains-Blog for brining it to my attention!

* Glam Blush has so much fashion week coverage that you can be kept in info for quite some time.

* A great site that is aggregating a multitude of blogs and websites covering fashion week is Inside the Tents. From blog posts, to photos, to video, to twitter updates, there is so much content available here that it will make your head swim!

Revlon Illuminance Creme Eye Shadow

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow comes in quads of four creme shadows. I tried the quad Not Just Nudes, which turned out to be a fairly nice set of nude creme shades.

Revlon Illuminance Creme Eyeshadow

The shadow itself is quite sheer, and only fairly buildable. If I had a complaint, I guess that would be it–I would rather see a bit more color payoff. But the sheerness still worked for me and the shadows blended very well because of it.

I did not experience issues with creasing, although I have seen other state that they had issues with that when using the Illuminance shadows. It appears that creasing is more problematic in those with oily skin, and I don’t have particularly oily lids, so that may be why I had no issues with it.

The shadow lasted most of the day for me. It did not stick around as long as my favorite, MAC paint pots (read review), but it did a decent job. Mostly I just love the shades, which are swatched below:

Follow Fashion Week with MAC Cosmetic Senior Artists and Twitter

MAC Cosmetics have set up their senior artists on twitter for micro blogging during New York fashion week and fashion weeks in other cities. If you look down the right sidebar a bit (look below the blogroll), you will see that I have added a widget that will run a feed of their tweets. Note that not all will be twittering from every city, so you might see some blanks. Also there is the Beauty Blog Network fashion week widget, which will run a feed of headlines from network members pertaining to fashion week throughout the Month of September.

Also, if you would like to follow Beauty and Fashion Tech on twitter, I run headline feed updates through the account Carleenp.

M.A.C. Cosmetics New View Collection

MAc Cosmetics New View Mineralized Skin Finish M.A.C. has a great new collection out that I find very useful. So I declare this a must have product!

M.A.C. New View is a collection of mineralized baked skin finish powders for finish, contour, and highlight. M.A.C. describes New View as follows:

Natural and Shimmer. The split personality of powder now, in NewView combinations with superfine seracite and talc base to sheerly and subtly perfect skin with dimensionality and mineralized starshine. The planes of the face, the contours of the body, made dazzling with a one-two sweep.  Mineralize Skinfinish duos are state-of-the-art simplicity, high-resolution finish.

Each compact contains two forms of SkinFinish—one fairly matte and one shimmery. The beauty of this is that you can use the matte to contour or generally finish your makeup, and use the shimmer for highlight. Or you can mix them together for a luminizing effect.

I tried one in light and found that it was perfect on my pale skin. There was just a hint of color from the matte to add contour and the shimmer was light and not overwhelming.

Contouring and highlighting with my complexion has always been difficult. Most products have too much color and end up looking like bronzer of blush. But New View worked perfectly. So pale girls take note! This one works quite well! This will easily become a staple item in my makeup bag.

MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator

MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator MAC Cosmetics has come out with one heck of a good exfoliator. MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator is truly wonderful stuff, and I predict that it will make my best of 2008 list at the end of the year. I find the MAC product description to be quite accurate, so here it is:

A highly effective, dual-purpose, foaming and exfoliating scrub blending natural Volcanic Ash with fine sugar crystals from the islands of Vanuatu. Adds moisture: leaves skin feeling soft and comfortably clean. Mineral-rich. Good for absorbing skin’s natural oils. May be used on any part of face or body. Rinses off with warm water.

The scrub is pretty coarse, which I like, but the foaming action tones it down a bit, It also leaves the skin feeling moisturized–something I find pretty impressive for a scrub. The one odd point though is that it is black in color. So it seems a bit weird scrubbing this jet black goo all over your face. I suggest avoiding use of it while wearing white or with white washcloths. I don’t know if it would stain and I wasn’t keen to test that! Personally, I use it in the shower.
