Urban Decay Naked Palette Review

The following is a reader review of the Urban Decay Naked Palette. Thanks Paulina!

A perfect eye shadow palette is hard to find, but Urban Decay has nailed it with their now staple product, the Naked palette. Incorporating a range mostly diverse neutrals, there is a wide variety of looks that can be created with this palette; anything from neutral to full-on smoky eye.

Urban Decay Naked Palette Review

Coming in a sleek palette that includes a brush and some eye primer, this palette is perfect for travelling since it comes with most of the colors you would need. The shadows themselves range from matt, shimmer, to the unmistakably Urban Decay chunky glitter, lending themselves to a huge range of looks appropriate for many different occasions. The eye shadows have excellent color pay off since this is a quality brand, and the palette is very cost-effective considering you are getting twelve full-sized eye shadows that retail for $18, and a brush and primer.

There are hundreds of color combinations possible with this palette, anything from keeping it simple with Sidecar on the lid and Virgin as a brow-bone highlight, or dusting the glittery Half Baked for party feel, these colors will not disappoint.

Some cons of this palette include the possibility that it is not right for all skin tones. I, personally, found it to be very versatile and great on my own skin, but have heard conflicting reports that people with very fair skin don’t enjoy the colors as much. Another possible con of this palette is the fact that some of these colors are a bit heavy handed with the shimmer, which could be a turnoff to those who want something a bit less loud. But these are personal complaints rather than complaints about the product itself, which has excellent pigment and staying power, especially with the primer included.

All in all, the Urban Decay Naked Palette is one that singlehandedly satisfied most of my eye shadow needs. And although it seems a bit pricey, it is so worth it, the quality of the product speaks for itself and the amount of shadows will last you a long time.

Urban Decay Vice Palette Swatches and Video Review

As soon as the Urban Decay Vice Palette came out, I knew that I wanted it. With 20 new shades, it is a must have for any Urban Decay eye shadow lover. My palette arrived yesterday, so here are photos, swatches, and a review with video.

The palette itself is a fairly substantial, attractive box. It isn’t exactly travel size. I consider it something that will stay in a  drawer for home use.

Urban Decay Vice

Inside are 20 new highly pigmented shades. The palette has a large mirror in the lid and a two-sided brush that is actually useable. One end is a small shader and the other is a blending brush.

The shades in the Vice Palette are, from left to right:

  • Top Row:  Desperation, Muse, Jagged, Blitz, Penny Lane
  • Second Row: Junkie, Chaos, Occupy, Unhinged, Black Market
  • Third Row: Provocateur, Rapture, Vice, Noise, Armor
  • Fourth Row: Nevermind, Echo Beach, Anonymous, Freebird, Laced

Below are swatches of the Urban Decay Vice Palette. The swatch order doesn't perfectly match the order of the palette, so I labeled the shades.

And swatches of the bottom to rows:

All of the shades have excellent pigment. A few of the glitter shades had high fallout for me, in particular, Freebird, Provocateur, and Jagged.  Plus to some extent, Rapture. I expect some fallout from glittery shades, but these were particularly high for me. Jagged did not swatch well without a primer, but that doesn’t surprise me. These really should be used with primer.

In the video, I note that Laced didn’t show up well. It does look OK in the photo, but I had to build it a bit to get it to show as well as it does. My favorite shade is Junkie. It has a beautiful mix of turquoise, blue and gold, and the photo does not do it justice. Penny Lane and Blitz are quite nice as well and Chaos is a wonderful vivid blue for fans of such shades.

Overall, this is a must have palette for any Urban Decay fan or collector. It is pretty hard to pass up on 20 new shades!  The Palette is $59 and should be available at least through the holidays.

Urban Decay Holiday Fun Palette Swatches

Urban Decay has out three zippered palettes for Holiday 2012 that are great for gift giving, or for yourself. Each includes  a few limited edition shades. I grabbed the Fun Palette, since I liked its mix of colors.

The palette comes in a zippered bag:

Inside are 6 eye shadow shades in Maui Wowie, Deep End, Sellout, Fishnet, Stay Dog, and Freakshow.  There also is a mini lip gloss in Lip Junkie.

The lipgloss is hard to get out of the case, despite there being  pull ribbon for it. It also was nothing real special to me and had a fairly strong fragrance of I think mint and vanilla. But I didn’t buy this for the lip gloss. I got it for the shadow!   Here are swatches of the shades:

Something I really like about Urban Decay is that they blend pretty well without getting muddy looking, so you can take bright shades and make them look much softer if so desired.  For example, here is a daytime eye look with Sellout on most of the lid, Stray Dog blended at the outer third and crease, and deep end blended just along the lash line and at the outer corner, along with a bit of liner from the new Urban Decay Ocho Loco Set. Since I am getting older and am starting to wrinkle (blech!), I think well blended looks tend to suit me a bit better than super bold ones, yet I like to get a bit of brighter color.

Obviously, you could do a brighter and bolder look with the palette as well. So, it is rather versatile.
