My Beauty Diary – Cupping Edition. Part 2.

I am excited to share Part 2 of the very personal Cupping Edition of My Beauty Diary. If you have not yet read Part 1, may I recommend you take a few minutes to read it before enjoying part 2 so that the story is fluid. For those of you who are new to My beauty diary, I welcome you with an open heart. Let me take a moment to (re) introduce myself. This is where I take you behind the scenes into my holistic beauty journey and how I stay nourished and ready for my work as a campaign, editorial, print, commercial model and film, tv and theater actress. My Beauty Diary was originally named Beauty Essentials and was conceived when I was interviewed by Carleen Coulter on what skincare products I use as a model. Following that, (and as a writer; featured fashion editor for Social Life magazine and NY editor for Hip Hop Connection magazine), I was inspired to write and presented Carleen with the synopsis for Beauty Essentials. Now here we are 9 years later and Beauty Essentials evolved into My Beauty Diary when published in VegWorld magazine in 2020. As I grow, every part of my life grows and so My Beauty Diary is a reflection of that. Welcome to my best self ever. I am so happy to be here.

Let’s  talk cupping. Two weeks after my first session I was eager and ready for more. Following the initial treatment the cupping marks (which I am now renaming ‘love notes”, so when you read that you know what I am referring to, as they are little love notes from inside my body), faded within 10 days. What I have noticed this time is that after just 3 days they are really fading. However, it should be noted that the love notes were not as potent in color the second time. This is due to the bulk of stagnation, toxins and blocked energy being released in the first session. As Ansgar, (my cupping king), told me as he viewed the results, “You are looking really good”. The brightest shade was still my small intestine and my kidneys (but still far lighter then session 1). It is absolutely fascinating when looking at the love notes as they are a roadmap for your organs and it allows an even greater connection with your body. How did this session differ from the first? I felt even more relaxed, the ability to feel the release is extremely fulfilling. When I went to sit up, following the cups being removed from my back, I noticed that I did not take as long to compose myself. I looked so deeply relaxed and it really showed in my face, I had that deep tissue massage zen look. I felt even lighter and energized.

Cupping is a therapy used in traditional Chinese medicine to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of qi (chi). Qi is the free flow of vital energy circulating through the body and the world around us. If the qi is disrupted or disturbed, it can create blockages or imbalances in the body. Benefits include; encouraging blood circulation, relieve muscle tension, promoting the release of toxins through our tissues, reduces anxiety and releases energy blockages.

I have been committed to fine-tuning and creating new habits, (as mentioned in part 1), that support my digestion and nervous system. I have actively been eating warm broth (my favorite is from JuicePress and is packed with so much goodness including shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, turmeric, ginger), and I am drinking tea. I am a coffee lover and despite being English I grew out of tea in my late teens. I should add apart from green tea, (an inside joke that I am sharing as I know my dad reads this, we were at lunch in Thailand and I had this never ending green tea pot hence every time I thought I had finished there was more and it makes us laugh to this day), the tea I have been enjoying is Organic Dandelion chai Probiotic by Traditional Medicinals. As a supplement lover I am using Turmeric Curcumin Extra Strength by MegaFood, which also contains Holy Basil and vitamin C. I have decided to take this for the duration of fall/winter as it is a superpower for ones immune system. Holy Basil has powerful anti stress properties and as an adaptogen herb, it is superb if experiencing anxiety. It is anti bacterial and anti fungal, so great for skin and preventing breakouts. Everything is interconnected and when supporting one organ, it supports another and the skin being our largest organ always benefits. I am also stepping up my workout game and I am finally starting in person ballet classes next month and that brings me tremendous joy. It is really about staying active and eating high vibrational foods that align with your bodies needs. Talking of vibrations, I want to add that our body absorbs everything around us and this has an impact on our health. From the environment we live in, to what we listen to and what we watch and who we allow in our life, the conversations we have. Be aware and make adjustments accordingly. I am actively nourishing all senses.

As I level up, how I self care levels up and cupping is simply part of my self care journey, that beauty from the inside out philosophy I discovered when I became a vegan. Much like the love we need starts within, our beauty starts within also. This is a lifestyle and a commitment to self because to live the life of your dreams requires your authentic self. The most rewarding relationship you will ever have in your life is with yourself. I am aligned with self and source and I wish you the same. Loving up our body is a huge part of achieving that. Enjoy the rest of summer. xoxo

  1. I haven’t tried cupping, but my husband did it and said it was the best thing he’s ever done.

  2. Off topic a little but I really want to start adding broth to my diet. I tried making it (once) but it didn’t work out but I know it has so many benefits.

  3. It is always good to celebrate when we find a beauty routine that we love. Keep on loving up on your body.

  4. I keep hearing about cupping, but I’m not sure I’d try it myself just yet. Maybe in the near future though potentially.
