This page contains documentation for my post on why Chi gets an F- for blogger business practices.

Update: I have received several apologies from the company. Below is the explanation (I have removed personal identification information)

Farouk apology

Below is the letter I received from Farouk Systems. As a side note, I do not use meta tags and the post had no hidden text. I do have navigation tags for brands that I cover and will be either deleting those for Chi and Biosilk or redirecting them to my post on this matter. Nothing in the post suggests sponsorship of my site. To the contrary, the review clearly stated that it was just that, a reader review.

Farouk letter

Below is my response. Although I initially referred to the use as fair use, the more correct terms would probably be to state (1) it is not infringement at all since there is no likelihood of consumer confusion (2) it is fair nominative use and (3) it is permissible use as editorial news commentary.  You will note that I gave them a few days to change their mind. I did not receive a response.

Farouk Response

Here are screen shots of the original review. This was either submitted by a reader or provided through a site where I commission reviews of people’s favorite products. I allow people to submit their names if they want, but apparently this person did not do so. The links to the product were direct links to the Ulta purchase page for the product, which apparently is no longer in stock. Please don’t buy a chi flat iron after reading this. I don’t think they deserve it.
