My running is taking a whole new direction this summer, as is my skin care routine, which needs to step up to match it. You see, I am training for a 100-mile race in September. As part of that, I am doing a 24-hour race in July and an eight-hour race in August. Meanwhile I am doing back-to-back long trail runs on weekends and am doing a trail loop with stairs on early Wednesday mornings before I go to work. I am adding on an additional set of these stairs each week to an eight-mile loop. This past week I did two sets. Next week will be three, and so on. The stairs are steeper than they look when photographed!
It is keeping me busy! It also kind of does a number on my skin. I run in whatever weather presents itself and, when it is sunny and windy, I tend to get a bit wind chapped. I also get muddy, dirty, and dusty, which can dry my skin out even more. It is also important for me to keep my skin very well moisturized in order to help prevent chaffing. All it takes is a bit of rough skin for chaffing to be exacerbated. So, I am mixing things up with my skin care as well! I do love hitting the dirt trails and I’m not going to let some dry skin get in the way of that.
I have taken up applying moisturizer in the shower or right after a bath before I dry off. Applying moisturizer to wet skin allows for the best experience because, after showering, your skin cells expand, which provides an easy pathway for moisture to instantly lock into your skin. I used to use regular moisturizer this way quite a bit, but now Jergens has a product designed specifically for it. Jergens has been a trusted brand for decades, so I went to Walmart and picked up two different ones, Jergens® Wet Skin™ Moisturizer with Restoring Argan Oil 10 oz. and Jergens® Wet Skin™ Moisturizer with Cherry Almond Essence 10 oz. By the way, the Cherry Almond Essence has a really nice light fragrance and is exclusive to Walmart. You can find it in the health and beauty section in the skin care aisle.
See the four blue bottles halfway down and fourth shelf up? That is it!
So, here is how they work. Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer comes in four different scents and contains hydrating oils. The scent is light and is just enough to be pleasant without overwhelming. The product is lightweight, slides on smoothly and instantly absorbs for all-day softness. In fact the quick absorption makes it perfect for use right before drying off. You can easily just keep the bottle in your shower or by the tub for easy use. I have been using it in particular when I get shower after running since that is when I am most likely to need extra moisture. Then, for good measure, I use it after my regular morning shower as well. Since skin absorbs moisture best after the shower, I know that I am getting maximum moisture.
My skin has been feeling great since I started using these. I particularly notice how smooth it feels. The product itself has a silky texture that definitely carries over to the skin. I suspect that I will be making this product a regular purchase item.
Now I am ready to hit the hills again at the trails around my favorite lake without worries about getting dry or wind-chapped skin!
You don’t have to to be a runner to enjoy these products. They are perfect for anyone who wants to get the maximum benefit from their moisturizer.
