Let’s get detailed about those good fats. As mentioned in part 1, the good fats are what moisturizers us from the inside out. Apart from the omega 3 packed chia seeds I’m also a huge lover of sea buckthorn. There are several different kinds of omegas and they have overlapping but distinct benefits. Omegas 3, 6 and 9 are the commonly used supplements for overall health and lustrous hair. The other omega compound that specifically benefits hair and skin is omega 7 or palmitoleic acid. It is a fatty acid commonly found in sea buckthorn. In addition to heart health, brain and memory function and glowing skin, these fatty acids can transform your hair. So why is omega 7 the queen of these good fats….let me count the ways beauty lovers. Sea buckthorn is the most potent plant source in the world for the highly coveted and elusive omega 7 fatty acid. Sea Buckthorn contains the strongest antioxidant profile of all super-fruits including superoxide dismutase, as well as flavonoids, polyphenols and over 190 phytonutrients. Hold up Queen B you superpower you….there’s more…gasp…this oil provides every essential fatty acid and protects cells from oxidative damage and aids in collagen production. As mentioned in part 1 collagen and keratin are our hairs bffs. Rich in vitamins A, B, C and K queen B promotes hair strength and elasticity. This is what you use for the ultimate shine. I highly recommend New Chapter Sea Buckthorn Force and/or SIBU Omega-7 Pure. Both website links are in the directory and both are available at yes you guessed it….wholefoods.
Now we have that glow from the inside out what else can be done to nourish our hair. I mentioned how I add turmeric to my smoothies in part 1, however I did not talk about what a super duper power turmeric is. So much so that I take turmeric supplements. I use New Chapter. Why is this herb so beneficial to hair?
Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and has anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antioxidant, antiseptic and antibacterial properties. So how does this translate to hair health….by nourishing the scalp and therefore scalp ailments and stimulating hair growth. Side note, the benefits to skin are endless and it’s a natural painkiller. In fact when I fractured my elbow and the doctor suggested ‘painkillers’ I said no thanks I’ll go to wholefoods and get turmeric.
Let’s talk products. So what happens when you layer your hair with numerous products…..it builds a residue that basic shampoo simply can’t deal with and hence your hair is dull. Hair needs to breathe. I highly recommend John Masters Organics for all hair products. Three of my absolute favorite products from this fabulous line are ‘sea mist sea salt spray with lavender’. This is my go to summer spray…it smells like the beach and feels great on your hair. Ideal for that effortlessly sexy hair. When I want to wear my hair in a top knot I use the ‘hair pomade’ to gently caress the baby hairs around my forehead….and for that wet look, ‘shine on leave-in hair treatment’ does the trick. I’m currently using Acure to clean my hair. I’ve talked at length about this skincare line before, however I’ve only recently started using their shampoo and conditioner and I’m loving them. I use the Peppermint & Echinacea vivacious volume shampoo and Coconut & Marula simply smoothing conditioner…..the results are beautiful.
The greatest product of all you can’t buy it’s inside you….love. So love your body so much it bursts out of you into this world….own your beauty…and never, ever apologize for being you…shine even brighter this season…Happy Spring beauty lovers.
