My Beauty Diary Spring Series 2022 – How I Move.

To witness the effortless transition into spring is magical…how the air feels lighter as it kisses my skin, the pops of light pink cherry blossom add a softness to the urban landscape, the trees gently coming alive with their vibrant new leaves, and that’s how I feel. I feel a new energy inside as I embrace the effortless beauty of nature. I am aligned with the transformation of the new season.

As a vegan, my approach to beauty is from the inside out and evolves with the seasons. Today I am inspired to write a spring series based on questions I have been getting. I want to start by sharing a recent comment. I was told that I am living this persons dream life and they want to live my life…and as I was listening to them talk, they then proceeded with short cut options of how they want to get there. I smiled to myself, knowing that what is seen on the outside is simply the result of an unshakeable work ethic and unstoppable drive. I decided to share this as it is all interconnected and relevant, there are are no short cuts. When you see anyone living ‘their dream’, know that the work ethic, commitment and discipline behind that dream is on another level. For myself, living my dream means living my purpose, my passion, my joy, it is what fuels me. That brings me onto my Beauty Diary because living your dream life (whatever that looks like for you) starts with how you treat yourself, your belief system and the choices you make on a daily basis. The foundation for myself is everything I share in My Beauty Diary. Whatever you want in life starts with knowing you can have it and taking action.

I have been taking that mindset to the gym. Consistency. Read that again because that is the key to working out. Consistency. I am committed to stepping up my workouts and also explore new ways to move. One of those has been boxing and I am absolutely loving it. Inspired by the boxing ring in my home gym, I am now learning the basics. To say I was excited in my first class is an understatement. The trust between my spar partner and I was a gift, the focus was so intense I was on a high, my mind kicked in when my body wanted to stop. I could really feel the whole body workout and I felt incredible afterwards. I was also in deep awe of the craft of boxing and the phenomenal level of focus involved. A true mind body experience. I love learning new skills and this is giving me so much more then just a physical workout. It starts in the mind.

I have started to use the sauna after my workouts lately. I find it really helps my muscles adjust and rejuvenate, especially when exploring new ways to move. Also superb for our largest organ; the skin. It is a great skin detoxifier and yes, creates that pop pow glow. It’s yet another way to support the immune system and when used in the evening is a beautiful prelude to a deep sleep.

My first class without a mask in two years happened in anti-gravity yoga at the beginning of March. I felt liberated without the constraints of the mask. The benefits of antigravity yoga include; decompressing the spine, improving flexibility, stability and balance and for myself trust. The trust of letting go; trusting my body to let go of any fear as I turn upside down in the air. Building that trust within is a power move. This form of yoga helps to rotate and move ‘stagnant’ blood that is staggered in the body. By encouraging healthy blood circulation, aerial yoga can help fight heart disease and additionally lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. I’m all about the energy and this class was so peaceful and playful, (my inner child was in her element), I could not stop smiling. I could actually fall asleep in the hammock while we enjoy our savasana, it is that nourishing.

Aerial Yoga. Namaste.

I have started pilates on a regular basis again. This was the game changer for my best body pre pandemic. My objective for 2022 is to create my best body yet and the fine tuning that pilates allows is truly transformative. Pilates works all of your abdominal muscles including those in your six-pack, waist and the deep muscles. My waist was 25 pre pandemic with consistent pilates and that is the only way to see results, with consistency. Apart from a flat stomach and less inches, it supports good posture (which helps the body in so many ways).

I use the gym for cardio and to tone. It does make a significant difference, using light weights improves the tone of my body dramatically. Even though I feel like I should see results immediately based on how I feel, it takes time and so being patient is another skill I continue to fine tune. Exercise is my oxygen, it makes me happy and grounds me. Our bodies were made to move. How are you moving?
