My Beauty Diary – Nourishment, Movement and Transformation During Self Isolation: Part Three

Part 3 – Transformation.

Welcome to the final chapter of this series. Let’s  start with a massive virtual hug…ahhhhhh…that’s better. What a journey we’ve been on and continue to navigate. Wherever you are when you read this, we are all in this together. I’ve not felt the physical touch of another human since early March so I’m giving myself big hugs and extra loving through this. However, I also know that I would not want to be in quarantine with anyone else but myself right now. The gift of self exploration and the ability to go within and get to know myself has been life changing. This time has allowed me to develop a self awareness so profound It’s magical. It’s allowed me to understand how to honor my needs fully and most importantly, how to communicate them and set healthy boundaries. Our quality of life is created out of our self worth. For part 3 of my series I am sharing how I’ve transformed through this.

It started with accepting the present. Embracing it and seeing the gift in it. For myself, when the world stopped I felt aligned with mother nature and leaned into it and allowed myself to breathe deeper as mother nature too breathed deeper. Of cause the practical side of this has taken immense trust and innovation on my part. My industry closed at the beginning of March and remains closed. All projects are on hold. However, seizing the opportunity within this was a choice I made and one I’ve embraced. I love life with a passion. I love the life I’ve created and the freedom it allows and it’s that freedom I miss the most. Gratitude is a mindset and gives birth to peace and the gratitude I have felt through this has been amplified. i am alive. You are alive. We are healthy and we have the power of choice. When this first started I wanted to literally go to the hospital and help. Here in NYC, being the epicenter of the world, you could feel death all around you. I prayed for those struggling to breathe while embracing the beauty of my own breath and acknowledging the privilege to breathe freely. I even contacted my ex, who is an NYPD officer, asking if I could help in anyway. Then I paused and realized, as an individual by staying home, physical distancing and wearing a mask when out for essentials, that is how I support the health care workers. And, if we as individuals can do this, then it allows us collectively to make a big difference. That’s why we need each other, united, together as a world, a country, a city, a community. Connection and community is a vital life force and it’s that sense of community that has supported me through this. The ability to connect with others really starts with the connection to self.

My self discoveries are almost daily throughout this time. I have been able to witness that just by being myself, simply by standing in my power and being my authentic self is threatening to some individuals. I don’t compete with anyone but myself, that’s the comedy of this behavior when I witness it, while also reminding myself not judge it. To watch anyone try to compete with me is exhausting and an energy I don’t want to be around. In-fact this pause has allowed a clarity that is so deep, I am able to accept and embrace my own growth and let go of what I thought I needed as it no longer serves me. I’ve had moments where I am literally celebrating my ability to say no that does not serve me and all with no judgement. To acknowledge who you have grown into allows you to make choices to support who you are now. Embrace your truth, not someone else’s. For example, I am driven, hugely ambitious, a go getter and I love my work with a passion. Owning and embracing whom you are unapologetically is so liberating. If anyone has a problem with it remember that is their issue, their truth, not yours. As I found the courage to embrace my authentic self I also faced being misunderstood. I’m at peace with that. Because the ones that get you, are the ones you want around you. When you no longer feel the need to prove yourself, or explain yourself the freedom you feel is absolutely life changing.

There is only one you! You are a limited edition. There is literally no-one like you in the entire world. How powerful is that. Dream bigger then you ever thought possible. Aim for the absolute best. The world needs your voice, your unique perspective, your talent. Really get to know yourself, that’s the gift of this pause. When we have a purpose and want to use our platform for something bigger then ourselves our work becomes something bigger then ourselves. For myself that’s what I am doing and will continue to do on a much bigger scale as my work/platform allows. Shut out the noise, the fears of others, be selective with what you read, watch and allow into your space. It takes courage to be yourself. It’s also the greatest gift you can ever give yourself and this world. Why be anything less. You owe that to this beautiful life we have been blessed to live. Understanding that to fully honor my worth, stand in my power, communicate my truth and who I am is the ultimate freedom and allows me to reemerge transformed. Allows us to reemerge transformed. Together. United. Loved up.

I want to leave you with this prayer from one of my favorite authors Don Miguel Ruiz and his book that has brought me so much nourishment, ‘The Mastery of Love’.

“Starting today, help us to love ourselves so much that we never set up any circumstances that go against us. We can live our life being ourselves and not pretending to be someone else just to be accepted by other people. We no longer need other people to accept us to tell us how good we are because we know what we are. With the power of self-love, let us enjoy what we see every time we look in the mirror. Let there be a big smile on our face that enhances our inner and outer beauty. Help us to feel such intense self-love that we always enjoy our own presence’.

We got this. I love you.

  1. You have a great attitude about being alone during this time. This is usually hard to describe but I know many others would love to have some serenity that you’ve written about.

  2. My absolute pleasure, thank you. The photos are all from Moulton by Emma J – the link is at the bottom of the page. I designed a t-shirt to help fund my directorial debut. A story of empowerment through nutrition. Stay healthy. xoxo
