Refresh Your Hair For Spring

Disclosure: Sponsored post by Mirum. All opinions are my own.

Does it seem like winter has gone on way too long? In my area, it was a particularly harsh winter season, and I spent a lot of it outdoors training for the upcoming trail running season.  Needless to say, my hair has been in need of a spring refresh. I took a few steps in order to pull it back in shape for the upcoming warmer months and incorporated some new ApotheCARE Essentials™ products from CVS to help keep my hair in top shape. Here is what I did.

Fresh Cut and Color

First thing I did to refresh my look was get a fresh cut and color. I had an inch taken off of the length of my hair to get rid of damaged split ends, and I went for an easy to wear cut that is slightly angled in front and has only a few light layers. Then, I updated my color with an overall light red and blond highlights.  I love wearing highlights in spring and summer and usually take the overall color a little lighter for those seasons.

Braiding My Hair When Running

I learned the hard way that long hair in a ponytail can turn into a tangled mess if it gets wet while running and hiking, or simply when being outdoors. Trying to untangle it causes a lot of damage. How to deal with the problem is a commonly asked question on many running and hiking forums. The solution is to braid it! I started wearing pigtail braids and have prevented a ton of damage that way. If I know it will rain, I even put a bit of conditioner in my hair before braiding it for my runs. ApotheCARE Essentials The Colorist Conditioner from CVS is perfect for that with my color treated hair. Here I am at mile 75 of the Rocky Raccoon 100, where it rained much of the race. I did not have tangles afterward though because I braided my hair! With spring rains on the way, I will be wearing braids a lot when running.

Using ApotheCARE Essentials

The ApotheCARE line of products from CVS includes items for strengthening and repairing and also has conditioners that are perfect for color treated hair.  Since I have fresh new color, that is perfect for me!

The ApotheCARE Essentials The Booster Shampoo is a perfect fit for my fine hair. Using cold-pressed rosehip oil, steam-distilled geranium, and concentrated aloe vera, It strengthens hair and adds dynamic volume for fine and flat hair  It is weightless but gives thicker looking hair that enhances natural movement.  There are no parabens, dyes, or silicones. It has a light, fresh scent. Nothing heavy, which is my preference. .

I paired up the shampoo with the ApotheCARE Essentials The Colorist Conditioner.  Made with distilled cactus milk, extracted Moroccan mint, and steam-distilled lavender, it is perfect for color-treated hair.  The product produces vibrant shine and optimizes the appearance of color-treated hair.  Like the shampoo, there are no parabens, dyes, or silicones, and it has a light, fresh scent. I found that it left my hair feeling super soft and looking nice and shiny.

To really jump start a hair refresh try adding in the ApotheCARE Essentials The Colorist Treatment Mask.  I love using hair masks and typically will do one once per week or so. The ApotheCARE mask adds additional conditioning to visibly recharge chemical and color-treated hair with high vibrancy and shine. It is also sulfate free.

Wash Less and Freshen Up Between Washes

I find that washing my hair everyday is hard on my color and tends to lead to me getting frizzy hair. So, I typically wash my hair every other day. However, I also have a bit of an oily scalp and my hair can get super flat fast.  This is where a dry shampoo is helpful. The ApotheCARE Essentials The Booster Dry Shampoo refreshes the hair instantly by absorbing impurities and recharging volume at the roots.  Meanwhile, it leaves a soft and  conditioned feel.  The dry shampoo is made with ingredients known for their strengthening properties such as milled Moroccan argan oil, distilled vitamin E, and hydrolyzed wheat protein. I is free from dyes and silicones. By using the dry shampoo I can better stretch out the time between washings.

Simple Styling

I aim for simple easy styling much of the time. That way I avoid the use of a lot of heat appliances that can damage hair. I like a simple and relaxed look that is fresh for spring!

My hair is ready for Spring with lots of shine and natural movement.  My assistant and I are ready for spring in general too. I am looking forward to some nice weather walks with her!

  1. Love your hair. Looks so nice and healthy. I’ve never heard of ApotheCare Essentials but I will check them out. Seems like really great products.

  2. braiding before getting it wet or exercising is a great idea! Dang, your running is inspiring me!

  3. Braiding my hair is life. I have very long hair so I braid during workouts and sleep so no tangles.

  4. I was just at my CVS looking at hair products, but I didn’t see this line! I wonder if it was elsewhere in the store or if the display/area wasn’t set up yet.

  5. Thanks! I did Rocky Raccoon 100 this past February and I also did Hallucination 100 last September. I’m training now for Never Summer 100k in July.

  6. At mine it was across the aisle from the main hair products among some of the more specialty hair stuff. And then, the treatment mask had its own display.
