I am a long distance runner, which is crazy hard on my feet! I’m currently training for a spring marathon and will then be focusing on a 24 hour race in which I hope to get to at least 100k (about 62 miles) Yep, I’m crazy! Anyway, all that means that I have to take extra good care of my feet. It is important that I keep calluses at bay to avoid blisters when running, plus I like my feet to hopefully not look like “runner’s feet.” So I have a routine for keeping them looking good.
My Beauty Routine For My Feet
I tend to put a lot of focus on both keeping my toenails short and on preventing calluses. My typical foot care involves these steps:
(1) Removing and Preventing Calluses: Calluses are usually a source of blisters with running. Meanwhile, friction from shoes can cause them, so this is an area that I continually work on. I prevent calluses by using petroleum jelly on trouble ares when I run. Then I treat calluses by using my Amopé™ Pedi Perfect Wet & Dry Rechargeable Foot File. The Amopé™ goes to work on calluses with just the touch of a button. It has two speeds: gentle (low) or intensive (high), and it is rechargeable, so it is always ready. Best of all, it can be used wet or dry, so I can use it in the tub.
(2) Keeping Feet Soft and Smooth: Smooth feet are both attractive and tend to handle the stress of running better. So, after I get them smooth using the Amopé™, I apply lotion to keep them that way. I tend to use various lotions and foot creams both in the morning and at night.
(3) Keeping nails short: Aside from the fact that short, neatly trimmed toenails are more attractive, I also must keep mine very short to avoid problems when running. Long nails can bump on the shoe when running and get damaged (this is that “black toenail” that runners talk about). So I trim and file my nails often. Then I keep them painted just for fun!
(4) Wearing the right shoes and socks: I focus on wearing supportive shoes and moisture wicking socks. As much as I love how they look, I avoid high heels.
My secret weapon in all of this definitely is my Amopé™. It makes it easy to keep my feet smooth and ready to run!
