instyler hair review

I have been seeking out easier ways to straighten my hair. I lack patience for flat ironing and I need more than simple round brushing (plus I’m terrible at round brushing). Then, my test of the Apalus brush was OK, but it isn’t the most durable of items. The InStyler Max has proved to be a pretty good option for me to get quick and easy hair straightening. It is now my go to tool for that.

The InStyler Max consists of a heated rolling section and a brush section. You simply clamp your hair between them and slowly move it down the length of your hair. The roller portion can switch directions, which makes it useful for also flipping ends up or under. It does take a bit of getting used to, and you have to be a bit careful not to touch the heated portion. To that end though, the InStyler comes with a handy dandy plastic safety piece that you can clamp on while learning or for general safety. Kind of like training wheels for the styler! You can also use the InStyler to curl hair but, other than using it to flip up ends, I haven’t tried it for that.

I was able to straighten my hair in about 5 minute with the InStyler. Pretty impressive! I also was able to straighten the back of my head much better than I can do using other tools. My husband also noted that it did a particularly good job. I really like using it to flip up my ends too, which is a look I wear occasionally.  The Instyler also seems quite durable, which I appreciate. I like to know that my hair appliances will last for some time.

Here are the features of the Instyler Max:

Two sizes available: Original 1 ¼” barrel size and a smaller ¾” size.
Heated rotating barrel: straightens and curls
410° F / 210° C ceramic heat
Multiple heat settings for fine, medium and coarse hair
Easy to read LED display
Curved ceramic floating plate to smooth hair
Two rows of bristles

Overall, I highly recommend this product. I like it much better than using a flat iron or heated brush. You can get an InStyler in a varying selection of colors here at Amazon.com and at a number of retailers. You can also see some video tutorials and learn more about the product at the Instyler website.

  1. Oh, your hair looks great! The more I see the Instyler, the more I’d love to try one!

  2. I am still looking for the HG straightener that I can use with my curly hair. I wonder if this will work with my curls, or if I have to blowdry it straight first, and then use it. Ain’t nobody got time for dat.

  3. I have been using my Revlon Hairdryer/brush that I got at Christmas and LOVE it…However, I really want to try this now heheh I love hair tools 🙂

  4. I’ve read a lot about this but I’ve always worried I’d get weird curves. You make it sound easy.

  5. I am hopeless at round brushing and flat irons, while giving me the look I want are so damaging. I get good results from the Revlon dryer/styler and a heated brush I ordered off of Amazon. This thing kind of scares me, I have mental pictures of my clumsy self loading in my hair wrong and it getting all twisted, tangled and brunt to a crisp! lol

  6. Ohh I like the look of this! I haven’t tried a straightener like this before

  7. These types of products freak me out a little bit. I am better with a regular straightener.
