My Vegan Body

My Beauty Diary was inspired by my choice to go vegan. With World Vegan Day approaching on Novemeber 1st, I would like to celebrate this life changing decision.

From the outside it looks like a glamorous life but the work behind the scenes is non stop. And the primary focus of that work is my instrument and maintaining it. I have to always be ready to go. Finding the right balance and consistency is what it’s all about, and becoming a vegan gave me that. I can confidently say it’s the best choice I ever made. What we eat affects our mood, skin, hair and body. This is the foundation to how I thrive on a daily basis.
My vegan journey began at age 14 in my childhood home in Cambridge, England. It was a slow progression from vegetarian to vegan and spanned over two continents and 3 cities I called home. From London to Miami to NYC. Each city influenced my transition and became an integral part of who I am today. Miami had the most impact and it was here I discovered yoga and became more connected to my breath and therefore my body. And it was in this beautiful corner of the world I eliminated dairy completely. The impact was profound. I noticed my body leaned out effortlessly, my skin tone was more even consistently and I didn’t get congested. I felt energized and light. The combination of yoga and how I was eating, allowed for a self awareness that ignited my ability to truly connect to my authentic self.
As my body became cleaner it rejected anything that did not fully support it. New York is where I became a full vegan. I stopped eating fish completely and then I found I was not even finishing my glass of Pinot Noir at dinner. It will be 7 years in January I made the conscious choice to not drink alcohol. A choice I was even surprised at. However, when you are connected to your body you hear it when it speaks to you. I simply listened and I honored how I felt. I don’t miss alcohol at all, in fact I love how I feel without all that extra sugar. I’m high on life and so in love with this gift called life, I want to be fully present in each glorious moment on this journey.
Being a vegan is a lifestyle and I live holistically. A healthy body equals a healthy mind. As a model and actress I take my fitness regime seriously. From cardio to ballet to pilates to yoga and this year I started boxing which is incredibly fulfilling and supports my pinpoint focus. I also ride my bike as much as I can and commute around the city on citibike. How we eat can either support our body or deplete it. Yes it takes tremendous discipline and so does anything worth having. The payoff is feeling and looking your best self consistently.
I’ve seen phenomenal changes in terms of both choice and awareness since I started my journey. The world in general seems to be waking up to the benefits of living this way. As humans, taking responsibility for our own health has enormous benefits to our society and therefore the health care system and the benefits to our planet and our animals are literally life saving.
Living in NYC we are spoilt for choice with a selection of superb vegan restaurants. I am particularly excited to experience Eleven Madison Park, which transitioned into a full vegan restaurant following the pandemic. I do find that when I travel there’s always a local vegan restaurant or a chef that is happy to prepare a vegan dish at non vegan restaurants. I would say to anyone who is inspired to try a plant based diet – start slow. Do it in stages and focus on fresh whole organic food because there is vegan junk food too.
I feel inspired daily. For myself understanding that what I feed my mind is as important as what I feed my body transformed my life. I live intentionally and continue to grow. A defining moment was understanding my worth. To stand in my power, and embrace and honor my worth and be my authentic self unapologetically – now that is freedom.

Starting slow is a great idea, helps your body adjust which I feel like benefits it more. Lovely post, thanks for sharing this about how you became vegan & to the point where you are today.
I love how committed you are to the vegan lifestyle. I’ve been toying with the idea, but I haven’t made the change yet.
When it comes to vegan food we always feel our choices are so limited when we went out to eat unless we would go to a main city or busier location. I think more of us should try a more van focused lifestyle, our planet certainly needs to.
It’s so important to listen to your body! I started having issues sometimes after a lot of dairy, and I learned a few years ago I am allergic to dairy. I have also stopped drinking alcohol and feel so much better for it even though I only had a drink maybe once per month.
That’s so great that you’ve found a lifestyle and diet that works best for you and your body. It’s interesting that different places had different impacts on your journey x
I was vegetarian for over 5 years and loved it!!! I never tried vegan diet but i am seriously considering it.
Her story is very interesting. I couldn’t imaging making a big lifestyle change, but I know it will be better for your health!
I respect all lifestyles and I think that if it works for you then go on. Very interesting read!
Thank you for your beautiful share about your lifestyle change and the positive effects it has had on you
Although I am not a fully vegan/vegetarian person, I try to avoid non veg food on 2-3 days every week. You have start it slowly, right? Glad the vegan lifestyle suits your body and mind ?
