My Beauty Diary – HairStory

Autumn 2022 – Part 1.

The magic happens when we step outside of our comfort zone. As the seasons transition I feel the change. This season feels different. It’s stronger. I’m stronger. I am a work in progress and unfolding like a beautiful love story. The greatest love story of my life – the one with myself. Cheers to change and cheers to radiating in our love as we navigate this world, expressing our unique, authentic self every step of the way. Because by doing so, we unconsciously give permission to others to express their authentic self and what a joy it is to witness.

Hair has been a form of self expression throughout history.….Right now as I write this, the women in Iran are courageously cutting their hair following the death of Masha Amini. This is an ancient Persian tradition, when the fury is stronger then the power of the oppressor. I stand with the women of Iran. Hair is symbolic. Hair has a story. This is mine.

Healthy hair is a priority for me and so over the last five years when I’ve wanted to go lighter, I’ve always been greeted with the same challenge. Color or healthy hair? However much I wanted to go lighter I would not compromise the health of my hair. I kept a mood board for the color I wanted and I kept the vision. Well this past summer I worked on a project and as a result I was able to give my hair a rest from the monthly hair color process. This allowed a window of opportunity to go lighter (side note: my natural color is blonde. Gasp). I had to seize this moment. I was excited and nervous when we tested a strand of hair a few days before diving into the transformation. The color test passed and the condition and shine remained and the rest is hair-story (I couldn’t resist).

As an actress and model whose image is my life, this choice involved checking in with my agent, (who was as excited as I was), and not having conflicts with current bookings where the client booked me as a brunette. It also means I’m in the process of new headshots and a compcard with my new hair color.

It was a warm Friday afternoon in late September. I took the scenic route via Central Park, soaking up the peace and the beauty along the way. I arrived at the iconic Plaza Hotel, where the Warren Tricomi flagship salon lives, feeling confident, calm and ready for the change. The security that day was intense as the U.N. was in session in NYC. The layers of security, from snipers to secret service to the NYPD, actually added to the grandeur of this moment.

The process lasted 7 hours and the artistry and attention to detail from the supremely talented stylist Catalina was awe inspiring to watch. Hair is art and I admire the craft and I’m inquisitive, always asking questions and learning. During these many hours I listened to affirmations, inbetween reading my script and smiled as I drank numerous cups of green tea (inside joke with my dad and my never ending green tea pot in Thailand). This was also a spiritual process of letting go, embracing all I’d become to fully bloom into this new, elevated version of myself. I walked out a different person and I felt so happy.

Staying on top of the condition of my hair is paramount. A few new habits I’ve incorporated include weekly at home hair masks. I now take Biotin and I actually see and feel a difference in my hair. It feels stronger. I’m using the Vegan Biotin Supplement by PlantFusion. Biotin, also known as B7, stimulates keratin production in hair and can increase the rate of follicle growth. I’m also amping up my daily protein. I like to joke when asked about protein as a vegan. I simply reply, “ask my hair, it’s made of protein”. I started using the Complete Plant Collagen Builder by PlantFusion every morning in my smoothie. It’s one of my favorites and includes amino acids, which have been a game changer and play a vital role in the health of our hair. My goal is to go pink when the timing is right and so stay tuned to share the journey…

Let’s own our hair story and celebrate each other’s and most of all have fun with it. Life is now. Go for it.

  1. Healthy hair is also my priority. I love hair color but I’ve been going without because I won’t compromise its health.

  2. I need to take more care of my hair. I think I might start doing weekly hair treatments

  3. You have gorgeous hair wow…I love what you said about every hair has a story, that is awesome…I too stand with women of Iran.

  4. I love your opening. Our hair grow naturally but our personal growth doesnt. We have to keep pusing ourselves out of our comfort zones. It is where we grow and it is where the magic happens.

  5. You hair looks absolutely gorgeous and I love the hair color! It’s so beautiful. I may have to try adding hair masks to my hair routine. I know I also need to try taking biotin too.
