My Beauty Diary – nourishment, movement and transformation during self isolation: Part One
Part 1. Movement.
Our life is relationship. We are related to the earth, the moon, the sun, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat. You are related to your friends, your parents and children, your spouse, and your co-workers, as well as to your own body, your thoughts and feelings, your job, and your bank account. In our daily life , relationships are most important – taken from The Complete book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies by Vasant Lad.
And these relationships have been magnified during this time. People’s true characters are amplified right now. The role of community is more important then ever. Our community, our city, our country, our world. Together we’ve got this but the emphasis is together. I’m allowing myself to lean into this and breathe deeper as Mother Earth breathes deeper. Feeling more in sync then ever, with a faith that is unshakeable and a spiritual practice that gives me the foundation to stand in my power and walk in self love. Allowing this self love to radiate from me wherever I go, understanding when we do this as individuals it creates a collective love that is unstoppable.
So how does this look. It starts with choice. Being selective with what we allow into our space. Eliminating the noise of others fears. Being innovative. What can we do right now. For me that starts with going within. Understanding the gift of this global pause and what I needed to work on and having the courage to face it and work through it. My intention is to emerge from this embracing my authentic self like never before in my life. By knowing my worth and communicating that to the world as I share my talent.

Understanding the mind body connection will allow you to be more selective with what you eat and how you treat your body. As a vegan who lives holistically I make a choice to always keep my immune system amped up. Prior to NYC being shut down I was already aware that I had to do even more to support my body. Recently I’ve been researching and learning even more about Ayurveda, which is how I already live. In Ayurveda, the science of life, is both systematized knowledge and practical wisdom, an art of healthy living that encompasses all phases of life, body, mind, and spirit. So when I tell you I live holistically that is what I am talking about. It is all interconnected.
I am going to start this series with how I’m moving, as this is what keeps me sane. Big smile. Going to the gym has been part of my life since a teenager and I work out daily in NYC. So, when our gyms closed I had to rethink how I was going to move through this time. The instructors at Equinox (my gym) have provided an invaluable sense of community and created nourishing classes that have become a lifeline really. Yoga has been part of my life since a teen and it’s how I check in with my body and become more connected to it and my breath. Below are talented, passionate and beautiful human beings, who I highly recommend.
Colleen Breeckner offers vinyasa yoga virtual classes (level 2/3) and she’s also offering nourishing workshops now that are a great introduction to Ayurvedic. Check out her website at www.colleenlilayoga.com
Kristen Bilella offers vinyasa power yoga and an incredible restorative yin class on Fridays (which feels like a massage, that’s how restorative it is). Kristen is very hands on in her virtual classes via zoom. Check out her class schedule at justbewithkristen.com
For those who prefer an IG Live class, then let me introduce you to the LBD Workout Experience. As explained by Lindsay, L is for lengthen through barre, B is for blast (& yes she works that booty hard) and D is for dance because it feels so good just to dance. You can join my girl Lindsay B Davis via IG. You will find her schedule on Instagram at @lindsaybdavis_

And my beloved ballet teacher, Jessica Epting, is teaching virtually via Broadway Dance Center, where I take my ballet classes in real life. There are all different levels so now could be a great time to explore this art form. Take a look at www.broadwaydancecenter.com
To supplement my classes I bike on my local bike path by the water when I can, either very early at 7am or in the evening. Being outside and biking brings me incredible joy. Sometimes I could bike all night. Witnessing spring in full bloom and the simplicity of nature is so calming.
I’ve also found I’ve been gravitating towards taking more baths lately. Adding eucalyptus salt and listening to gospel. Just simple practices that are nurturing during this time.
Part 2 will be taking a look into how I’m nourishing through my plant based diet and adaptogens. Until next time…Stay healthy and loved up. Love Emma.

I’ve been doing Peloton workouts and walks around the neighborhood – it’s so crowded here though! We have to dodge people.
A few of my friends are doing virtual yoga classes. I’m running early with the husband now that it’s warming up here. Although the last few days there are more and more people out and about at 5:30am.
I love seeing how people are changing their attitudes and their methods. It’s good for our minds to move away from the paradigm we are used to. It’s interesting how these teachers have changed to fit the times.
I’ve been trying to do a lot more walks!
It’s been interesting watching the world react. Life won’t be the same after this.
I love hearing from you all. Thank you so much for your feedback. Part 2 – Nourishment is here now. Hope you enjoy it. Xoxo
