Sponsored Video: Be More Human, From Reebok

Reebok is challenging the world to be “more human” through encouraging people to push themselves out of their comfort zone to fulfill their human potential. The video campaign, which you may have seen during the Super Bowl, looks at athletic performance in conjunction with the human experience and how we push ourselves physically to be stronger mentally, emotionally, and to be better humans in everyday life. As a distance runner, it really spoke to me. Trailers after the online version offer additional features and quizzes to explore how exercise and physical challenges affect the daily human experience. Take a peek below:

I just recently completed the Dopey Challenge at Disney in Florida. There, I ran 48.6 miles over 4 days (5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon). It was an incredibly enriching and “human” experience. Meeting the challenge and doing so with friends was amazing.   I am now beginning to train for the Bayshore Marathon in Michigan in May, where I will try to qualify for Boston. I have several months of difficult training ahead of me for a goal that I have previously failed at. Yet those past failures were valuable and left me enriched. Instead of feeling defeated, I felt motivated.

Distance running affects me in so many ways beyond just physical fitness. As the video itself notes, we push ourselves physically in order to be better in many different aspects of our lives. For example, by training hard for a marathon, I teach myself discipline and I gain mental acuity, self esteem, and fortitude. I learn what my body can and cannot handle, and I become a stronger, more driven, and more brave person overall. Simply put, long distance running and racing makes me a better person, and yes, it makes me “more human.” I am looking forward to my upcoming training and to seeing what May will bring.

How do you use exercise to be “more human?”

  1. Too be honest, no. I started running years and years ago as a form of weight control, but I developed a positive addiction to how it made me feel. Plus, it gets me outdoors everyday. And I love sightseeing in a new city by running. But whatever gets people to exercise, it’s a good thing!

  2. I honestly haven’t exercised in forever. I do remember your post detailing your 4-day run, which was impressive! I am planning on starting the gym soon… but slowly.

  3. I never really thought of exercising as a way of being more human till now, but come to think of it, I love the interaction in the gym – I met some lovely people because we weren’t the music-in-your-ears-while-gymming type, so I suppose that’s how we use exercise!

  4. I take walks with my son after dinner. I get movement and more time with the little guy <3

  5. I neeeeed to start being more active! Our little dog isn’t much for long walks, but short ones will be happening when it warms up!

  6. I sit here and say I hate exercise, but when I really think about it I miss it. Between having my son and daughter I used to do a rep reebok class at the Y and then 10 min after take a spin class. I did the spin class 5 days a week and rep reebok was two days. Never will I ever be as skinny and fit as I was in HS (I’m just not as active nor do I have the time to do dance/baton 6 days a week anymore lol) but I could definitely stand to get in shape. It’s such a mood improver, too.
